About the role



The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) are for improving and protecting the environment, striving to grow a green economy and sustain thriving rural communities, as well as supporting the food, farming and fishing industries in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.



Genesis is a large workflow-based application for managing Environmental Stewardship (ES) agreements (contracts) with farmers and landowners under strict legislation, with the scheme providing funding for delivering effective environmental management of land.









Atos provides application management support and development and the governance of these services and has received outstanding feedback over the years for their flexibility, trustworthiness, speed of response and proactivity.



The current AMS & AD contracts have been operational since Jan 2017 (until 31 / 01 / 2024) with a SIAM structure.



The services are based out of the Atos office in Beeston however many now follow a Hybrid way of working. There are 9 people delivering Apps Support & governance and 7 people delivering development.



BPSS clearance is required.



Roles and Responsibilities



- Investigate user-raised incidents and devise technical data fixes or workarounds for the end user.

- Write ad-hoc reports using SQL and PL / SQL in line with user-raised requirements.

- Plan your own daily workload in line with Service Levels.

- Provide detailed and accurate daily updates to AMS Team Leader.

- Raise, address and resolve business issues to resolution.







- Supervise the progress of all business and technical issues.

- Carry out knowledge transfer activities.

- Ensure that approved processes and procedures are followed.

- Attend relevant internal and external meetings.

- Ensure corrective actions are initiated.

- Ensure changes are built, tested, and accurately implemented.

- Ensure Helpdesk call logging system (ServiceNow) is updated in line with SLA.

- Raise problem records for underlying application defects identified through the incident investigation.

- Act in accordance with Atos site security standards and any other security standards including those relating to information security.

- Define new, and update existing processes and procedures where appropriate.

- Work independently with proven client-facing experience.







- Must have the ability to analyse problems and provide clear recommendations.

- Must have superb communication skills, written and verbal.



Requirements of the Role



- Experience using Oracle apps server / database, SQL and PL / SQL, ServiceNow - mandatory

- Java / J2EE knowledge is desirable but not essential. You will not be expected to write a code but it would help if you can read it.

- ITIL knowledge (optional)

- The candidate must be willing to work flexible hours as support and maintenance activities will usually have to be performed outside of normal working hours.

- Currently, the support window is 7 AM - 7 PM, Monday to Friday. There will also be on-call out-of-hours opportunities.

Genesis application : An n-tier architecture with an Oracle 11g database, Java middle tier, and a .NET web front end. ESRi ArcGIS is also used for mapping functionality and TIBCO iProcess for BPM / workflow.



GenRep Application : Oracle 11g, IBM DataStage / InfoSphere, Oracle WebLogic 11g, Oracle Discoverer, Oracle Application Express (Apex)
