The University of Southampton is home to world-class research and innovation that changes people's lives for the better. We are seeking an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Programme for a new master's programme in Medical Technology, Innovation and Design (MTID) run by the School of Healthcare Enterprise and Innovation (SHEI), part of the University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine.
SHEI is a community of researchers, healthcare professionals and educators who champion the development of healthcare innovations that generate social change and economic benefits.
The MTID programme is an ambitious and unique postgraduate programme to the UK. The programme will be project-based, bringing together students from various disciplinary backgrounds to design new medical technologies to address significant clinical problems in both UK and global healthcare contexts.
You will be an established academic in the field of medical technology, industrial design, healthcare innovation or a related discipline who can contribute across the range of research, education and enterprise activities undertaken within the school, and who will be deputy programme lead for this innovative new MSc. As a member of the SHEI team in a balanced academic position,
you will lead and grow an independent area of research aligned to the School and Faculty research strategy and take a leadership role in the development of junior staff and students within your research group. In your education role, you will support the launch and delivery of the new programme, working closely with clinical placement colleagues in the Trust and globally, supporting students and student teams, interacting confidently with industry, investors and mentors to the programme from the MedTech/HealthTech entrepreneurial community.
We are proud to be rated Gold in Minds Workplace Wellbeing Index 2023-24 and hold an Athena SWAN Silver Award and the Race Equality Charter Bronze Award 2022.
As an organisation, we support flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working options. We have a comprehensive benefits package including pensions schemes, childcare support and more.
