Job summary
South Reading and Shinfield Group Medical Practice are seeking a Pharmacy Technician to improve the quality and safety of care delivered to patients across its practice.
This is a new and exciting opportunity to be a part of an expanding and diverse Team. You will work across two sites delivered by the organisations, improving patient care.

The post holder is a pharmacy technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. They are required to act within their professional boundaries, supporting and working alongside a multi-disciplinary team within General Practice.
The post holder will contribute to improving prescribing practice and patient care.This includes improving repeat prescribing processes in General Practices, promoting digitalisation, reducing medicines waste and minimising clinical risk associated with medicines taking.
The post holder will help patients to get the best from their medicines, operating within clear protocols and guidance.
Main duties of the job
All Pharmacy Technicians must work within their competencies and have professional indemnity for their role.
To play an active role ensuring regular medication audits are carried out and that key performance indicators for the team are actively monitored, reviewed and achieved.
This includes helping to ensure consistent practice in GP prescribing
- Assist in the delivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes and patient safety audits.
- To work closely with local pharmacies who are based near the practice.
- To ensure dose optimisation on medicines and to oversee the team work for medication switches and synchronisation to ensure safe and effective prescribing.
- Liaison with community pharmacies on the introduction of electronic repeat dispensing as appropriate, and to improve efficiencies.
- To support the practice pharmacists and clinicians with medicines reconciliation in accordance with the practice protocols and to update patients medical records and prescriptions.
- Support practice reception teams in streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requests
- To play a key role in the practice work flow process regarding medication. This would include appropriate coding of medication in letters.
- Provide expertise to address both the public health and social care needs of patients,
including lifestyle advice and help in tackling local health inequalities

The Practice is located acrosstwo sites in South Reading. Our friendly, professional and experienced GPs,extended range of MDT and administrative teams offering a wide range ofclinical services.
We do not employ staff who areregistered at the practice as patients. If employment is offered, it is on thecondition of registration with another GP practice.

Management of temporary and permanent prescribing changes at scale (ie due to supply issues or formulary changes)Liaison with community pharmacies on the introduction of electronic repeat dispensing as appropriate, and to improve efficiencies.
To provide advice to GPs,
staff and patients in changes to prescribing in order to support improvement of prescribing safety, quality and cost effectiveness (eg asthma inhalers)To support the practice pharmacists and clinicians with medicines reconciliation in accordance with the practice protocols and to update patients medical records and prescriptionsTo respond to medication queries from patients and staff in a professional manner referring to appropriate clinician as appropriate and ensure this ethos is present throughout the team.
Support practice reception teams in streaming general prescription requests, so as to allow GPs and clinical pharmacists to review the more clinically complex requestsTo support the stock controller on sourcing and safe management of medicines as appropriate.
Provide expertise to address both the public health and social care needs of patients, including lifestyle advice, service information, and help in tackling local health inequalities

Qualifications
Essential
- To be considered, you must hold a minimum of
- 4 GCSE's at Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification) in English, Mathematics and Science subjects
- General Pharmaceutical Council Registration
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy skills
Experience

Experience of working as a qualified registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
4 GCSE's minimum of Grade C (or equivalent) in Maths,
English and two Sciences
Desirable
- Computer literate with an ability to use the required GP clinical systems and Microsoft office packages
