Job Purpose

Job Title : NEC Supervisor (south)

Advertised Salary : £32,400 - £37,000, + car cash allowance (£4,860 p.a.) + benefits.

Location : Remote, with regular travel across our 'south' canal networks (West and East Midlands, London and South East, and Wales and South West).

Our national Project Delivery Team are implementing reservoir safety improvement projects involving earthwork alterations to embankment dams, repair or replacement of large concrete spillways, installation of remote monitoring facilities, crest raising works, grouting projects, pipework repairs, control valve enhancement and access and safety improvements.

The NEC Supervisor will support the Trust by ensuring quality across reservoir and other priority projects; undertaking the inspection / testing of construction works, reviewing contractor’s risk assessments and method statements, and checking compliance of the construction works with the Contract Scope.

This would involve providing a weekly report on the progress of construction works, the quality of the works, and liaising with the contractor over health and safety construction issues.







Between site visits the job holder would support the development of contract documents, particularly Scope and Specifications for our high-profile projects.

Working with project managers, designers and our contractors to ensure clarity and compliance of contract documents, highlighting risks, quality and test and inspection requirements, before pricing and entering into contracts progresses.

- Projects ranging in value between £50k and £10M with projects of 3-month duration to in excess of 5-year duration.
- The Trust operates 71 large, raised reservoirs as defined under the Reservoirs Act, a further 11 small, raised reservoirs, with an annual capital works budget for reservoir maintenance and improvements in excess of £4M.

This role will be offered on a remote working basis, with a requirement to attend our main hub spaces as and when required for team working and collaborative meetings.

Travel throughout the waterway network will also be expected to enable site visits, liaise with team members, and to assess / conduct necessary improvements.

Knowledge, Skills / Qualifications & Experience

Key accountabilities

- Familiarity with the consultant’s design and raising queries with regards to constructability in terms of safety and quality.
- Reviewing the Contractor’s Inspection and Test Plans to agree witnessing requirements.






- Ensuring that a consistently high standard of quality control and supervision is maintained for the projects via site visits, inspecting works and reviewing RAMS.
- Submitting reports on a weekly basis to the Project Manager as appropriate to advise clients of progress and the status of construction related quality, site safety, reservoir safety, public safety and completion issues.
- Ensuring that the standards of work and the materials supplied by the contractor is as specified in accordance with the Works Information Package (WIP) and design deliverables.
- Maintaining records and data pertaining to the progress of the works, including site diaries detailing materials, plant and labour utilised by the Contractor.






- Witnessing on-site testing and commissioning and keeping appropriate records of results.
- Identifying technical problems on site and report to the Project Manager and the Reservoir Supervising Engineer.
- Managing defects identification and rectification process, including preparing schedules of defects and certifying rectification of snagging items.
- Support the development of Contract documentation, particularly Scope and Specification.
- Work safely ensuring the safety of others and contribute to safe working in all activities;

About uou

You will be a highly organised individual who self manages effectively to deliver to agreed deadlines. Collaboration and teamwork are how you do business.

In this role you will also have day to day administration to manage, so it is important that you can assist in the administration of all Contract and KPI rebates for the various Contracts & assist to administer all annual price inflation in accordance with the relevant Contracts, but that you care about the necessity for accuracy of admin.

Technical :

- Be a degree or HNC qualified engineer.
- Trained in and a good understanding of NEC / ECC contracts.
- Experience of heavy civil engineering works including earthworks.
- Proven experience on major projects,





having worked in the role of NEC / ECC Supervisor.
- Background supervising contracts for water engineering structures.
- Preferably have experience in one or more areas of canal works, embankment dams, flood defences.
- Knowledge linked to the design or construction of reservoir structures or flood defence embankments, would be an advantage.
- Proven track record of successful contract negotiation.

General :

- Highly organised and strong administration - paying attention to detail matters to you.
- Excellent communication skills - you are an effective coach and have experience training and sharing best practice developing managers and team members to a heightened understanding.
- Analytical skills and attention to detail.






- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Proficient in the use of a personal computer and business applications software e.g., Excel, Word and other MS office applications.
- Ability to extract and interpret data in order to display succinct information for reporting purposes.
- Excellent standard of written and verbal communication.
- Valid driving license appropriate to vehicle to be driven.
