Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Diagnostic Radiologist with a sub-speciality interest in urological imaging.

This post has arisen for maternity cover. It offers an excellent opportunity to join an established team of diagnostic Radiologists.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust a tertiary referral centre for urology in both benign and malignant disease. This substantive WTE consultant post has arisen out of a need to increase reporting capacity, specific procedural and MDT contributions.

The successful candidate will have sub-speciality skills in urological imaging and will be expected to contribute to the delivery of a combination urological and general radiology.







Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is at the forefront of urological imaging and research.

We were the first site in West London to set up the RAPID prostate same-day diagnostic pathway that saw reduction in time to treatment from 40+ days to 10 days.

The success of our pathway led to the roll-out of this service across London and the details of our programme was recently documented in the BJUI article and its companion video on the BJUI website.

The applicants must hold a CCT in Clinical Radiology (or equivalent) and be on the GMC Speciality Register, or be within 6 months of being granted a CCT.

Candidates with appropriate accreditation in radiology who wish to work only part-time or on a sessional basis are encouraged to apply, as are applicants interested in job-sharing.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the urological imaging service across the Trust's three main sites including ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT and MR reporting.

Specifically,





the post holder will be responsible for reporting RAPID prostate MR. The post holder may contribute to MDTs and this commitment will be agreed following appointment.

In addition to subspecialist programmed activities, the successful candidates will be expected to contribute specific sessions to the general work of the department, including duty "hot desk" reporting, general CT, MRI, US and plain radiographs.

Part of this will take the form of an extended day performing an acute cross sectional reporting session.

Rapid access and the safe and efficient reporting of inpatient and emergency workload are key priorities, and the post holder will be expected to contribute to the general work of the department, including plain film and CT reporting,





which is delivered by a large consultant team across 7 days, and includes a daytime duty rota, scheduled but infrequent and flexible sessions at weekends and also extended weekdays.

The successful candidate will be expected to make a contribution to training as well as to work with the divisional team to help manage the service effectively.

There is a strong focus on training, and our radiology training scheme is highly regarded, with approximately 60 trainees currently in post, many in sub-specialty training.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is a WTE post (10 Programmed Activities -PAs)

A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and divisional director, on behalf of the Medical Director, this is not designed to be exhaustive.







One evening list per week will be included and will be either a general ultrasound list or an acute scan reporting and checking list.

One of the PAs will be on a Friday afternoon for all appointees.

In line with Trust policy, the job plan has direct clinical care (DCC) PAs (clinically related activity) and SPA for audit, clinical governance, appraisal, CPD and revalidation.

Such activity will be agreed in the job planning process and will have agreed and measurable outcomes.

In addition the post holder maybe expected to contribute to a subspecialty MDTs. These are weekly or monthly. Details to be decided following discussion, and taking into account the post holders preferences and skills, and the requirements of the service.

The example job plans in the JD are provisional, and subject to confirmation by the Clinical Director and Head of Specialty.







Please note MDT preparation time and MDT attendance is to be kept under 20% of total DCC time.

Person Specification

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

- GMC registered Medical Practitioner with license to practice.
- GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC's specialist register.
- Appropriate Royal College Membership (FRCR or equivalent)

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

Essential

- Training in body imaging specific to urological disease and the ability to report a variety of general radiology ultrasound, CT and MRI.
- Ability to perform fluoroscopic procedures pertaining to urological conditions
- Ability to lead the radiology provision for speciality MDT's
- IT Skills and computer literacy

LEADERSHIP / MANAGEMENT SKILLS

Experience of teaching and training undergraduates / postgraduates and junior medical staff
