Job summary

Are you looking for a new challenge working in an alternative healthcare setting? We deliver transformational models of forensic, physical and mental healthcare into police custody suites.

We believe we can make a real difference to those with vulnerabilities and healthcare needs whilst being able to support the police by obtaining evidential samples.

We care for some of the most vulnerable people in society who are taken into custody suites. Operating with independence and autonomy, your actions can be lifesaving when you consider the physical and mental challenges of people who often have a high dependency on drugs and alcohol and exhibit difficult behaviors.







Maintaining detailed and accurate records to ensure the health, safety and welfare of detained persons held in police custody is paramount.

Locations -Humberside - Birchin Way (Grimsby) and Clough road (Hull), and on occasion Priory Road (Hull).

South Yorkshire- Barnsley, Doncaster and Shepcote.

West Yorkshire Bradford, Elland Road, Halifax, Huddersfield and Normanton.

You will be employed for a region and will be allocated shifts at any of the suites within that area. There may be occasions for training purposes and operational requirements that you may have to attend the other custody suites and Leeds central offices.

Main duties of the job

Role involvement

- Conducting clinical assessments to identify if patients are fit to be detained in custody.
- Continued provision of care identified during assessment including the management of long-Term Conditions,





Minor illness and injuries and Emergency treatment.
- Mental health and substance misuse assessments and management
- Forensic sampling including road traffic offence bloods
- Providing substance misuse therapies whilst in custody
- Referrals and sign posting to support wider vulnerabilitiesCollaborative working, onward referrals and sign posting to external agencies
- Maintaining accurate records to ensure the health, safety & welfare of detained persons held in police custody.

Skills and experience

If you're a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a background and professional registration, either a nurse or a paramedic we want to hear from you.

RMNs must also have relevant physical assessment experience).







The UK Association of Forensic Nursing recommends a minimum of 3-4 years experience post-registration. We also welcome advanced skills including Non-medical prescribing.

You'll have extensive experience of working in a relevant speciality, such as General Practice, A&E;, walk-in centre, substance misuse services, prison healthcare or mental health liaison service in an A&E;

As you'll be working collaboratively with other organisations within your suites (Police, Liaison and Diversion, drug services etc) highly effective communication and documentation skills are a must.

Job Purpose

The post holder will beresponsible for their own caseload within their speciality area as anautonomous practitioner. In doing so, they will assess, plan, deliver andevaluate patient centred programmes of care to a specialist level ensuring thatthey practice within their sphere of competence and knowledge.

The post holderwill work to professional and regulatory body codes,





standards and guidance atall times ensuring that their practice is grounded in evidence basedtheoretical and practical knowledge.

1. Clinical

Demonstrates a detailed theoretical andpractical knowledge of common aetiologies, pathologies, conditions andpresentations involving a critical understanding of theories and principles

Demonstrates innovative and specialist skills toselect methods and tools to holistically assess, plan, implement and evaluatein a complex and specialised field of work.

Demonstrates highly developed physical skillswhere dexterity and accuracy are important syringe pumps and infusions,manual treatments

Makes consistent judgements requiring complex factanalysis,





interpretation and comparison of options and ensures clinicalreasoning is reflected accurately in case records

Engages and actively involves the individualand, if appropriate, their family / carer, in the assessment, planning,implementation and evaluation of programmes of treatment and / or care by using person-centredtechniques to promote a culture of involvement and empowerment

Works to standards of proficiency identified bytheir professional and regulatory bodies performing clinicaltreatments / procedures to a competent standard

Prioritises their own workload, and that of thewider team, within agreed objectives deciding when to refer to others asappropriate.

Provides and receives complex, sensitive orcontentious information where motivational, persuasive, empathetic,





negotiatingand reassurance skills are required whilst demonstrating an understanding ofbarriers to communication

Approaches each individual with care, compassionand sensitivity ensuring that these values are reflected in all areas ofpractice including the management of any complaints and compliments.
