Job description

Role : Senior Developer (2 vacancies)

- One vacancy is fixed term contract for 12 months maternity cover
- The other vacancy is permanent

Salary Details : £51,093 - £69,068.36

Additional Allowance : This salary is based on this range (£51,093 - £54,129) for a standard working week of 35 hours unless otherwise stated.

Any offer made above £54,129 will be made up with a market supplement allowance, Paying up to £69,068.36

The Role

We are looking for a senior developer to join our team.

If you are successful in applying for this role, you’ll be working with several different software stacks. Some of the key technologies you’ll be working with are :

- EKS / Kubernetes
- Docker
- Gitlab CI
- LAMP stacks
- Local Gov Drupal and other PHP-based CMSes







Across one or more products in development at discovery, alpha or beta stage, you will :

- Build web and mobile web-based products and services to serve user needs
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code
- Help set software development standards and ensuring they’re adhered to; defining high-quality services and service support
- Identify performance bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems
- Help maintain code quality, organization and automatization
- Lead and mentor junior members of the development team
- Work across mutiple product teams concurrently

What You’ll Do

- Implement software development standards and practice for the council
- Use open-source, cloud-based,





loosely-coupled technologies to make sure our technology remains nimble and easily iterated upon
- Monitor performance against technology standards for the council, including software development standards and practice;

architectural standards and designs; devops practice and culture

- Ensure that all software you build, maintain and run passes the GDS service standard or equivalent peer review
- Take responsibility for making sure our services don’t become stale, continuously iterating in live
- Work with services to help them improve their technology systems, even when we haven’t built them
- Use test-driven development or similar methods to ensure our services are of a high standard from day one.

Who You Are

We want to hear from people with skills in :

- Building,





supporting and continuously iterating software
- Cloud infrastructure; data centres; applications and components
- Leading a development team within wider multidisciplinary user-centred Agile teams
- Collaborative prototyping with user researchers, service designers and content designers
- Using test driven development or similar
- Pair-programming, mentoring of junior developers

Hiring process

Step 1 Complete the application form and upload your CV and cover letter.

Step 2 If we invite you to an interview, we will :

- Send details of the 5 10-minute presentation we’d like to you do.
- Send your interview questions in advance
- Check with you if you need any further accommodations for the interview.

Step 3 Attend the panel interview. This will usually be a 1-hour video call with up to 3 people like the hiring manager and other team members you would work with.

We’ll ask you to do your presentation at the start of the interview. We are keen to ensure that the video interview process doesn’t interfere with your ability to present your work to its best effect.

Your presentation can be talking direct to camera, slides, a PDF, or similar, and could include visual examples of your work.

The panel will then ask you follow up questions.

The panel will then ask a set of questions which will also have been sent to you in advance.

This will give you the chance to think about your answers in depth and be able to talk with confidence. The questions will give you an opportunity to show how you meet the essential criteria of the job description.

At the end you’ll have the opportunity to ask the panel questions in return.
