Job summary
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow post in Neonatal Medicine (ST 4+ level) to gain tertiary medical neonatal experience based at Southmead Hospital.
The posts will start as soon as possible for 6 months, with the potential to extend for a further 6 months.
Main duties of the job
Southmead (16 Intensive / high dependency cots) is a tertiary medical Neonatal Unit and is one of three tertiary units in the South West Neonatal Network (SWNN).
Approximately 5,500 babies are born each year at Southmead Hospital.
The Neonatal Unit provides a full range of medical Intensive Care accepting tertiary medical referrals from the northern part of SWNN as well as providing a tertiary service in Neonatal Neurology for the SWNN.
Southmead cares for approximately 100 infants
The postholder will be required to work a full shift system whilst at this hospital.
Full Registration with the GMC is essential. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential.
The posts are not recognised for training and do not have postgraduate deanery approval; however, the job is educationally sound.

Training & Experience
Essential
- Paediatric experience of at least 72 months Including Neonatal experience of at least 6 months at ST1-3 level in a tertiary centre and 12 months at middle grade in a DGH and / or teriary unit
- Technical skills involved in the care of neonates Competent in history taking and examination skills.
Desirable
- At least 12 months UK experience
- Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices
- Experience as a middle grade in Tertiary Neonatal unit
