About IT Services
IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving department, we focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.
The Role
The postholder will be responsible for the line management and direction of a team of internal communications professionals within the Directorate of IT Services.
Working closely with the Communications, Marketing and Student Recruitment Directorate, as well as colleagues across the University, they will support with the development and delivery of the University’s internal communications and engagement service and strategy, ensuring the production of dynamic communications and campaigns,
and making sure colleagues at all levels are engaged, informed, and receiving consistent messages across the University, with a particular focus on IT.
Ensure a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement across the team by putting our colleagues and students at the heart of everything we do, and embedding a positive sense of identity, direction, purpose, and community.
This post involves evening and weekend commitments. Appointees must be prepared to work outside regular office hours and support an out-of-hours rota as necessary. The University has arrangements in place to recognise this working pattern and to ensure an appropriate balance between working and non-working time.
The Person
- Significant experience, knowledge, and understanding of leading and delivering dynamic internal communications, campaigns, and associated engagement activities.
- Capacity to think in strategic terms and a willingness to exercise leadership.
- Proven record in effectively leading and managing a team with evidence of setting and achieving clear objectives and performance goals.
- Experience of working in a large, complex organisation, working collaboratively across organisational boundaries to achieve agreed goals (ideally within an IT environment).
- Evidence of experience of working in a customer-focused environment and delivering exceptional customer service to stakeholders.
- Experience of managing multiple projects/campaigns and operations on behalf of yourself and your team.
- Experience of reviewing and developing employee digital platforms and an understanding of how IT systems can support and enhance service delivery.
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills, the ability to influence others outside the direct sphere of control,
and experience of matrix working.
