Since the original St. JOHN restaurant opened in Smithfield in 1994, Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver have grown their unique and eclectic portfolio to include: the Michelin starred St. JOHN Smithfield, St. JOHN Bread & Wine and the more recent addition of St. JOHN Marylebone. The restaurants each hold a unique personality and sit alongside the wholesale St. JOHN Bakery and retail stores, Boulevard Napoleon winery and vineyards in the Minervois, along with HG Wine (St JOHN's independent wine business).
The company is in an exciting period of growth across all business channels and is therefore seeking a hands-on HR Manager (a newly appointed role)
to support the development of a committed and engaged team who are set up for success in delivering key business objectives. The successful candidate will be a valuable member of the management team and will be responsible for working with the senior leaders, operational teams and our external HR Partners in order to deliver and execute exceptional HR & People initiatives throughout all channels of the St. JOHN business.
Reporting into the Managing Director, the role is a generalist one managing the day-to-day HR operations inclusive of talent management & succession planning, recruitment & retention, employee engagement, employment relations and ensuring compliance with HR policies and procedures. Most importantly, the role will provide a customer focused HR people service which is approachable and listens to all employees and supports the unique culture and values that makes St. JOHN special to both employees and customers alike.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced HR Manager who has worked in the hospitality, wholesale or retail environment,
who naturally understands the high-end expectations and levels of engagement our customers expect of our business, and therefore of our team. Equally important, is someone who shares their knowledge and passion for all things bread, food (nose to tail) and wine. The role will be based both in our office and around our St. JOHN portfolio of sites in Central London.
Requirements for success:
• Proven experience as an HR Manager within a fast paced and professional environment, ideally with hospitality, retail or wholesale food/drink or bakery experience.
• CIPD Level 5 qualified is preferred or qualified by experience.
• Evidences a breadth of experience across the entire HR function, with strong administrative and HR system's experience.
• Able to operate at a both senior level and switch to hands on operational HR administrative tasks.
• Passion & enthusiasm for all things food and wine. Demonstrates empathy with ‘nose to tail' eating and the St JOHN core culture and values of purpose and simplicity.
• A professional, engaging and friendly personality who has the confidence to represent our culture and image across our business.
• Demonstrates an open, approachable, collaborative and professional style that supports the attainment of respect and credibility by all stakeholders.
• Strong influencing and communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to adapt communication style appropriately.
• Great attention to detail. Analytical and the ability to effectively disseminate HR data and recommend/deliver appropriate actions.
• Actively listens,
seeks information and asks questions to ensure the understanding of underlying issues, concerns of others and problem solve effectively.
• Has a personal commitment to organisational excellence; displays honesty, integrity and a strong sense of fairness and ethics.
