A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic Senior Clinical Pharmacist with vision, excellent communication,





organisational and leadership skills to join the Critical Care Pharmacy Team at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This post is based at the Denmark Hill site, although rarely cross site cover may be required.

King’s Critical Care is the largest critical care service in the United Kingdom, and one of the best performing. We are very fortunate to have a new state of the art 60-bed critical care unit. This brings exciting new challenges and opportunities. Our patient case mix is very interesting and dynamic, the Trust is commissioned to have more than 100 level 2/3 beds, across two sites. We are recognised nationally and internationally for our work as a designated liver transplant centre, bone-marrow transplant centre, trauma centre for the Southeast, as well as a tertiary neurology and cardiothoracic referral centre (including an ECMO service).

The Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Service at Kings College Hospitals is highly respected. We are patient-centred, research-oriented and very progressive.





Supported by a dedicated team of pharmacists and Medicines Management staff, the post holder will support the continued provision and development of a high quality, comprehensive Clinical Pharmacy services to patients, senior managers, and clinicians within the Critical Care Division, as well as managing junior pharmacy team members.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have excellent communication skills and an ability to manage complex relationships both within and outside the Pharmacy department. Experience in Critical Care across a breadth of specialities is essential. Provision of support and training to progress and develop staff both personally and professionally is of utmost importance to us.

As a senior clinical pharmacist,





you will be working towards delivery of a clinical pharmacy service at Advanced Practice, as defined in the RPS Advanced Pharmacy Framework. The successful applicant will join a supportive pharmacy and divisional team which includes pharmacy team leaders each with their own fields of expertise, including a Principal Pharmacist in Critical Care and the rare opportunity to work alongside a Consultant Pharmacist in Critical Care.

This post provides flexible and challenging opportunities for development, both clinically and managerially. The successful applicant will be expected to be a team player with clinical experience, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.





The post holder must have at least foundation level clinical skills across a breadth of specialities, including some experience in critical care.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the enhanced hours and weekend working services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of a dedicated pharmacy team to lead, provide and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services to Critical Care. The post holder will also support the Principal Pharmacist for Critical Care in managing the team. The post holder will liaise between wards, departments and pharmacy to ensure that pharmacy services are tailored to meet the Care Group’s needs wherever possible.

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:

- Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Critical Care







- Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within Critical Care

- Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in Critical Care in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist.

- Participate regularly in outpatient clinics to deliver and promote high quality, cost-effective and patient-focused pharmaceutical care.

- Act as a pharmacist independent prescriber to optimise the care of patients within Critical Care.

- Ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input to the care of patients within Critical Care. Providing interface and discharge liaison and support.

- Actively participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, delivering and promoting high quality, cost effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.







- Provide patient and carer education and close liaison across the interface.

- Promote safe drug use within the Critical Care specialties.

- Development, implementation and audit of local guidelines.

- Supervise and train pharmacy staff at ward level.

- Provide education and training of healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust.

- Regular financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.

- Participate in practice and clinical research and audit.

- Work with the Principal Pharmacist to extend the boundaries of professional practice within the Care Group.

Person specification
Qualifications

-

- Registered Pharmacist (1 year competency assessed and examined professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council)

- Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent qualification / experience

- Registered Independent Prescriber or willingness to complete

Experience

- Specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to area of practice

- Previous relevant specialist clinical experience

- Demonstration of advanced practice using evidence mapped to the RPS Advanced Practice Framework

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
