Job description
Various locations across South Yorkshire dependent on role.
Salary In line with National Pay Scales Station Manager Competent £51,525 per annum plus 5%. This will be subject to an additional 20% for flexi duty responsibilities (if undertaken).
Continuation of competent pay is subject to successful completion of the SYFR Station Manager Development Programme.

Eligibility Criteria
- Currently hold a permanent employment contract as a wholetime Watch Manager in a UK Fire & Rescue Service (excluding airport and defence services)
- Be substantive and competent in the Watch Manager role having completed in full your required development
- You will hold an IFE Level 4 Certificate Unit 3 : Fire Service Operations and Incident Command
- You will hold a Level 3 Assessor Qualification or be willing to achieve this qualification within 12 months. (Please note that this will be a requirement of continued employment)
Assessment Process
Initial Application form
A written application form for all applicants demonstrating how they meet the four elements of the NFCC Leadership and Management Framework, with the provision of brief examples.
This will not be a sifted application form. Questioning around responses will be included within the interview process.
Stage 1 Operational Assessment & Operational Interview
Operational Assessment
The Operational assessment is a Level 2 assessment based around the Effective Command Behavioural Framework (Katherine Lamb) and linked to the Skills for Justice Framework.
The outcome of the operational assessment will be either a pass’ or fail’ and will not be scored. Those unsuccessful would be ineligible for further stages of the process.
The Operational assessment would take place prior to any further elements.
Operational Interview
This will consist of a post operational assessment professional discussion to ensure that individuals have the required knowledge and understanding of key overarching operational principles.
In addition this will include questions relating to the level of command and tactical roles of a Station Manager.
Stage 2 Leadership & Management Interview (plus Flexi Interview if applied for)
The assessment will be in the form of an interview and will be based around the NFCC Leadership Framework with consideration of the Fire Standards in Leadership.
Your application form will be reviewed prior to the interview and some questioning will focus around expanding on the information provided within your application form.
Flexi Station Manager Element (Optional element)
This will be an additional element for those seeking flexi duty system opportunities and would be competitively scored to enable a fair selection of individuals to go into a pool for promotion to the flexi duty rota.
