About the role
The Senior Finance Manager will have 2 direct reports the UK Management Accountant and the AP / AR Controller. The team look after the full UK Media P&L;, balance sheets, payroll posting and group intercompany balances.
The role will also have a key role in improving the accounting control environment across the global media division, assisting the FP&A; process and developing successful partnerships with key stakeholder teams in the business.
Main duties and responsibilities
UK profit and loss accounts
Full P&L; responsibility for the UK, including preparation of the monthly close file with variance explanations.
Presenting monthly P&L; results to Media Finance Director & UK MD.
Posting monthly revenue journals and reconciling revenue recognition tools during the close process.
Ensuring Cost of Sales & Operating Expenses are accurate and accrual levels are set correctly.
Assisting the Finance Director in preparation of the annual budget and reforecasts.
Business partnering
For digital campaigns, business partnering with the UK Creative Solutions team to produce monthly campaign trackers, with a focus on gross profit margins.
On the cost side, working with the global functional leads for HR, Legal, Technology, Marketing & Content to track and analyse expenditure.
Presenting financial analysis to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Allowing stakeholders to use this information to make informed decisions.
Group-wide process improvement
Identifying problems and opportunities for system and reporting improvements. Researching and presenting potential solutions and implementing fixes through collaboration with the Finance Director and others, including overseas finance teams.
Implement,
audit and maintain appropriate financial controls and processes to ensure good governance and risk mitigation including the management of the Group’s risk register and financial control requirements.
Balance Sheet
Ownership of the UK Balance sheet, ensuring monthly reconciliations are completed and signed off.
Ownership, monthly review and monitoring of the UK fixed assets and intangible asset registers.
Reviewing capex entries to ensure additions adhere to the Group capital expenditure policy and IFRS is followed.
Cashflow management
Preparation of the UK cash flow, actualising receipts and payments on a weekly basis, and preparing a 3-month rolling forecast.
Review of the weekly UK pay-run prepared by the AP / AR Controller, and once committed, first stage bank approval.
Coordination of UK debt collection, working closely with the credit control team.
Ownership / Review of UK external reporting requirements
Plan and prepare, in conjunction with the Group finance team, the year-end and interim statutory financial statements.
Working with the external audit team, including, maintaining source documentation to ensure a smooth audit process.
Completion of the quarterly UK VAT return for the group.
Oversight of the timely completion of ONS returns.
Supporting the year-end tax reporting and any PSA compliance as necessary.
Ad hoc tasks as required & deputising when the Finance Director is unavailable.
Person Specification
Qualified in CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or equivalent.
Excellent people management and development skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to convey financial matters to non-financial stakeholders.
The ability to build effective working relationships with both internal and external partners.
Excellent attention to detail.
Pro-active, self-motivated and eager to acquire knowledge about the business.
Ability to work well under pressure, working accurately with attention to detail and able to meet deadlines.
The ability to demonstrate confidentiality and diplomacy at all times.
Advanced Excel skills, a previous knowledge of a financial system.
Knowledge / experience of media and or technology business (desirable).
