The Role
We are looking for a budding communications specialist to join ICMM’s Communications team as we embark on our new 5-year strategy.
The new Communications Officer will play a key role in supporting the delivery of our new communications strategy which aims to engage key stakeholders and new audiences about the role mining plays in sustainable development.
The Communications Officer will be a communications business partner for a variety of ICMM’s projects and initiatives. This includes a range of project areas such as Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights, building community resilience, diversity, equity and inclusion and climate/the environment. The Communications officer will also have the opportunity to work across all communications functions, with a focus on external events, research, media monitoring and reporting, content production and social media. The Communications Officer will be responsible for media monitoring and reporting, researching and writing content for a variety of platforms, drafting press releases, managing our events schedule and identifying opportunities that will strengthen the credibility, creativity and impact of our brand.
Key responsibilities include:
- Communications business partner for various projects; this includes working with the team to develop and deliver communications plans,
manage the design process of ICMM publications and the translation of key documents;
- Managing media monitoring and reporting;
- Producing written and visual content including press releases, website copy, videos and publications;
- Coordinating ICMM’s events schedule including the marketing of events, preparing briefing notes and speeches, being the point person for external event stakeholders and maintaining ICMM’s events planner;
- Conducting research to source case studies, facts and figures, and other relevant information for use in speaking points for members of the ICMM Management team and for use on our social media channels.
- Supporting communications team colleagues with other project specific and ad hoc duties as required;
- Administration – coordinating member networks and meetings including paper development; minute taking.
Profile and Desired Experience
You will have some experience in communications planning and project management and be keen to take the next steps in your career. Ideally you will have experience working in one or more of the following - sustainability communications, corporate communications, the natural resources sector, the world of international development or an industry or membership association. You may have in-house or agency experience. You will be a compelling storyteller, adaptable problem-solver, have a learning mentality and show great initiative. You will be collaborative and well on your way in developing solid relationship-building and influencing skills. You’re a strong writer,
with great attention to detail.
- Ability to coordinate activities for several different work-streams and sometimes to tight deadlines;
- Great communication, interpersonal and administrative skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Highly organised;
- Approximately 1+ years’ experience within a Communications role;
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (esp. Power Point, Excel and Word);
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
