Analyst, Portfolio Management

The Portfolio Management team is responsible for the implementation of Dimensional’s investment philosophy. They ensure client portfolios continually pursue the targeted premiums, provide traders with buy and sell candidate lists, outline trading parameters, and assist clients to understand Dimensional’s investment practices. To warrant the most optimal investment decision making, the Portfolio Management team works closely with other departments, such as Trading, Legal, Operations, Research and many more. Aside from everyday responsibilities,
the Portfolio Management team members collaborate on innovative projects and initiatives aiming to improve existing processes and facilitate company growth.
Analyst Role
As an Analyst, you will support the day-to-day needs of the Portfolio Management team. The team of Analysts work collaboratively to share weekly static tasks, these include but are not limited to: analysis of corporate actions and formulation of election recommendations for Portfolio Managers, review of market news and consideration of their potential impact on securities that are held across portfolios, daily reconciliation of funds and accounts ensuring that cash balances are accurate and reflect all significant transactions. The work is operational and of crucial importance in the daily investment process.
In addition to standard responsibilities, ad-hoc requests and projects that Analysts collaborate on with senior team members provide outstanding learning opportunities and chance to gain familiarity with processes related to fund management.
Once settled into the role, Analysts join the “Analyst Development Program” as well as get a chance to become junior leads of a number of investment processes. The increasing exposure to various tasks and great emphasis on development set first steppingstones en-route to becoming a Portfolio Manager.
The ideal Analyst candidate will be pro-active, analytical, and able to implement our core investment concepts quickly.
You should be able to digest and articulate the research and scientific approach that Dimensional takes to investing. We are looking for someone with strong self-motivation and desire to excel in the Portfolio Management team.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with Portfolio Managers and Analysts in Dimensional’s global offices across equities on topics such as corporate actions, cash balances, and portfolio holdings
- Monitor and analyse securities for significant changes
- Assist with portfolio reporting including returns, market value calculations, and characteristics
- Special projects including portfolio analysis, index analysis, and ad hoc data requests
- Propose and develop improvements to existing business processes
- Substantive communication with Portfolio Managers, Traders, Operations, DFA global offices, and custodian banks
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in engineering, mathematics, science, finance or another technical discipline is preferred
- Prior exposure to programming and/or databases (Python, SQL, VBA)
- Must be detail oriented, organized, highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment
- The ability to work to tight deadlines, to be adaptable and priorities effectively is a necessary skill
- Ability to absorb and apply information from formal and informal learning experiences
- Strong communications skills (verbal and written)
- Interest in financial markets and academic research related to the field
