The role

Reporting to the Head of Command and Control, the Airport Duty Manager (ADM)





oversees the Stansted operation. You will guide operational teams to ensure collaborative, dynamic, and efficient operations whilst embodying a plan, do, review approach.

As the ultimate decision-maker for unresolved operational issues, you will consistently monitor for early warning indicators and anticipates potential impacts on operations.

They proactively implement interventions to rebalance demand and capacity and prevent performance decline. You will :

- Understand the operations plan and any upcoming risks and prepare options and contingencies in-line with agreed policies, processes and procedures, through the plan, do review cycle.
- Lead our operational teams in the delivery of the plan, working closely with Service Delivery teams on the day of operations to monitor performance, anticipate risks and identify options to eliminate or mitigate the impact to the operation.
- Accountable for conducting and managing airport teams, as Tactical Commander
- Respond to performance challenges and incidents






- Ensure this response is effectively co-ordinated and implemented
- Lead inter-agency working with colleagues across the Civils Contingency Act and use of the JESIP principles
- Support business continuity and resilience activities by providing input from the Day of Operations and helping identify risks and build of the associated contingency plans.
- Ensure that post-incident activities are completed to capture lessons-learned, including the completion of wash-ups, debriefs and event reports, where a Command and Control response was required.
- Escalate incidents as required, ensuring that leadership are informed on the response to and the progress of the incident.






- Drive continuous learning and improvement of responses to unexpected events by acting on lessons learned and identifying opportunities to improve own team performance.

What will make you successful in the role?

To succeed in the role, you will posses the following :

- Good understanding of operational protocols, procedures, policies and published contingencies, including security and civil contingency legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with impact and influence at a senior level.
- Ability to exercise good judgement and decision making.
- Capacity to get conclusions out of discussions.






- Effective team management and leadership skills.
- Experience of managing in a large-scale, technical and multi-stakeholder environment.
- Experience of working in a regulated environment.
