Job description

Our client is in the process of opening their second home and are looking for a passionate and experienced Deputy Manager to join their team.

The Deputy Manager will work very closely with the Registered Home Manager to uphold the company’s commitment to achieving the highest possible outcomes for their young people.

The young people in your care will have access to a spacious group home living environment, designed to support 3 young people between 10 to 18-years of age.

Main duties and responsibilities :

Childcare Provision

- To contribute to the normal development of the young people through the provision of a healthy lifestyle, a variety of appropriate activities and a consistent caring adult role model.






- To be sensitive to the needs of individual young people, taking account of race, language, religion, sexuality and culture.
- To talk and listen to young people, monitoring their behaviour and recording significant features.
- To contribute to and implement care plans, participate in reviews and other meetings as required and ensuring LAC documentation is up to date and changed when appropriate i.

e. after a statutory review.

- To promote working in partnership with parents, carers, social workers and any other appropriate persons important to that young person.
- To provide additional support and comfort to young people who are under stress or suffering from anxiety.
- To identify and implement boundaries necessary to modify unacceptable behaviour of young people.
- To be alert to signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that the young people are monitored and protected.
- To encourage young people when appropriate to carry out physical tasks i.e. washing, shopping and budgeting.






- To contribute to the development of service provision.
- Undertake any other duties that may be required.
- To be a strong and positive advocate for children and young people, voicing their feelings and wishes
- Ensure that the appropriate paperwork and strategies relating to the care and safeguarding are implemented and updated accordingly
- Monthly audits of children and young people’s files

Support of Staff

- To ensure the daily management, monitoring and supervision of staff is facilitated in a professional and competent manner
- To promote professionalism and standards to the team in line with policy and procedures
- To be responsible for the deployment of staff on duty to ensure that the work of the unit is undertaken
- To participate and chair regular staff meetings






- To work in accordance with the company policies and procedures
- To report to a Manager / Director or other appropriate person, malpractice, suspicions or evidence which may suggest it
- To support staff development through supervision, development sessions and team meetings
- Liaise between the staff team and management
- To support the Registered Manager with maintaining an effective On-Call Rota and share in the On-Call responsibilities and duties.

Home & Administration

- To contribute to the effective management of the homes resources, keeping within the devolved budgetary constraints.
- To record budget activity in line with financial procedures
- To be responsible for the security of monies kept on premises in line with procedures
- To follow all administrative and financial procedures






- To support in the implementation and completion of action plans
- Ensure the home is operating in compliance with all standards
- Supporting the Registered Manager in the completion of Regulation 45 audits
- Support with recruiting and safer recruitment
- Support with investigations and disciplinary processes

Health & Safety

- To implement the Health & Safety policies and ensure that all staff are aware of all Health & Safety procedures
- To undertake risk assessments as appropriate
- Ensure that all incidents / accidents are recorded and reported according to procedures
- To undertake fire drills and tests in accordance with procedure and record the necessary data

Physical Environment

- Ensure that the condition of the premises is maintained and report any physical deterioration or repairs






- To ensure the security of the premises, furniture, equipment and the personal belongings of the young people

Training and Team Development

- To identify individual staff training needs and participate as appropriate in the development of staff with agreement and support from your manager
- To develop and participate in training initiatives
- To develop skills through an agreed personal development plan
- Create, oversee and review staff development and progression plans

Communication

- To observe and actively promote lines of communication with staff and senior management, and ensure they are made aware of serious or potential serious situations
- Ensure effective communication with all relevant professionals during working hours






- Ensure the implementation of Regulation 5 (Working with the wider community)

Personal Development

- To take responsibility for continuing personal development and remain up to date with relevant childcare legislation and practice, both locally and nationally
- To attend training sessions, courses or qualifications based on identified areas within supervision for development

Supervision

- To receive supervision from the home manager in line with Hamann Care supervision policy
- To provide supervision to colleagues, ensuring continuity of staff development

Requirements :

- Two years working within residential childcare
- Understanding of Therapeutic practices
- Understanding of Child protection and Safeguarding legislation and procedures.
- Work individually and within a team
- QCF 3 / 4 Health and Social,





Children and Young People

Salary :

- Salary range is £31,000 - £34,500 per annum dependent upon level of qualification and experience
- 40 hours per week, working predominantly Monday to Friday
- May be required to cover shifts absences, which will include Sleep in duties. Sleeps will be paid in addition to this at the rate of £50 per Sleep.
