Job overview

We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader Children's who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

Children’s Emergency Department is purpose built and includes three paediatric resuscitation bays, 6 major spaces, and an ENP service co-located within the emergency department, seeing minor illness and injury, as well as a ten bedded children’s assessment and decision unit.

The Nurse Team Leader post is a vital and valued role to support in providing high-quality, compassionate nursing care to patient / clients and their families / carers.







Based on a Children’s EDand Assessment Unit setting they work closely with the department / ward manager and multidisciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining policies, standards of nursing care, staff and service development within the unit setting.

Main duties of the job

You will prioritise and provide a high standard of safe, individualised, holistic, family centred care that is evidence based, in consultation and partnership with the child, their family / carers and the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT), that recognises the distinct needs of children and young people and ensures the provision of privacy and dignity at all times.

Promote an environment that reflects the psychosocial and developmental needs of children and young people, in terms of play, recreational facilities and educational provision.

Ensuring specific provision for those with special needs

Undertake the role of a Link Nurse for a given field within the department,





when requested to do so, by the Ward or Matron

Comply with quality indicators and infection control policies, standards and procedures, including hand hygiene and care bundles, ensuring that yearly updates are undertaken

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria

- RSCN / RN Child with current NMC registration
- Evidence of further education, training and on-going learning
- Evidence of Paediatric Immediate Life Support Course
- Evidence of Safeguarding Level 3
- Evidence of Practice assessor course
- EPALS or APLS

Desirable criteria

- Triage Competent
- Leadership course

Previous Experience

Essential criteria

- Experience within an acute paediatric setting
- Experience and evidence of effectiveness in co-ordinating and managing patient care
- Ability to prioritise, organise workload and delegate and supervise tasks appropriately
- Ability to analyse,





resolve issues and make sound judgements on clinical issues, using initiative, whilst demonstrating an awareness of own limits.
- Evidence of implementing and managing change
- Evidence of previous experience and efficacy in mentorship, teaching and assessing
- Experience of handling adverse incidents and complaints.

Desirable criteria

- Previous Triage Experience
- Worked / Experience within an Emergency department

Skills

Essential criteria

- IV Administration
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to negotiate.

- Medicines management competency
- Ability to work within a team
- Good self-awareness
- Ability to priorities and organise workload

- Accredited appraisal skills

Desirable criteria







- Computer literacy
- Central Venous Access Device competent
- Venepuncture
- Cannulation
- Blood transfusion competent
- Paediatric HDU Level 1 course
- Children’s and young people mental health course

Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Understanding of sepsis and management
- Understanding of Children’s Safeguarding
- Understanding of Respiratory illness and Equipment
- Childrens and Young People Mental health
- Developed theoretical and practical knowledge of acute / chronic Paediatric care, Directorate, Trust and National policies.
