About this job
Heathland is a Day Service provision, delivering services to people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, housed within the service is a specialised Autism service.
Many of our clients require a modified diet to meet specific health needs. The Assistant Cook is responsible for : food preparation, preparing and overseeing deliveries and ensuring the safe storage of food items.
With direction from the cook implement the borough food safety procedures and conform to Food safety regulations. Ensure that stock is stored appropriately in accordance with food hygiene requirements.
Ensure that the kitchen meets the hygiene standards and ensure that the routine cleaning programmes of kitchen equipment,
utensils and work surfaces are to the specified standard.
Special requirements for this post
- Assist Cook with safe preparation and handling of food, including chopping, using a range of kitchen equipment and tools.
- Adhere to hygiene and health and safety standards.
- Undertake food serving duties ensuring that food is properly portioned and accounted for.
- Complete routine cleaning programmes of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work surfaces to the specified standard. Undertake dish and pot washing duties ensuring the kitchen and dining room is free of used utensils cutlery, crockery and other equipment / implements.
- Ensure that ovens and stoves are clean at the end of each day where required assisting other kitchen staff / cooks with cleaning of ovens.
- Emptying kitchen and dining room refuse bins.
- Check deliveries of food supplies. Ensure that stock is stored appropriately in accordance with food hygiene requirements.
- To cover in the absence of the Cook using a simplified menu under the direction of team leader.
