Job description
Vicar of Hull St Nicholas.
Our committed and collaborative benefice is excited about what God is doing amongst us and what our future holds.
We are seeking a Vicar to help us discover God’s vision for how we can live Christ’s story in our communities. We desire to grow in discipleship and communities.
They will have a heart for the gospel and sharing it with others both enabling us to evangelise and modelling it in their life and ministry.
They will value the Bible and its teaching, applying it to our lives and deepening our discipleship.
We don’t expect our Vicar to do everything and we look to share in ministry with you. Prayer is important to us and we will pray for you.
We work well as a team,
with committed lay leadership, and there is a generosity of spirit amongst our churches.
You will find us situated between the village of Hessle and the vibrant city of Hull. We are excited about our future and finding the person God is calling to lead us forward into the plans we know he has for us.
We are looking for a vicar who will :
- Deepen our discipleship, grow our faith and creative expressions of worship and ministry.
- Help us seek vision and lead church growth with energy and enthusiasm.
- Enable and equip us to reach families and younger generations.
- Value Scripture and its teaching, making it accessible to all.
- Engage and communicate with the local communities and the wonderful variety of people within them.
The Diocese of York
The Diocese of York, led and guided by Archbishop Stephen Cottrell, takes in much of North and East Yorkshire. As the largest diocese in England, geographically, the area is very diverse, featuring a multitude of needs and opportunities.
This includes the bustling urban centres of York, Hull and Middlesbrough, the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park, and the incomparable Yorkshire Coast;
as well as areas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastal communities.
Our mission and ministry relies on thousands of people - lay and ordained, volunteer and paid. Our diocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission and ministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of church buildings, and safeguarding.

Our approach is aligned with a commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities, and to the financial realities we face.
Under current immigration rules, it is not generally possible for us to appoint clergy who are not already eligible to work in the UK.
Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Enhanced DBS disclosure.
