What is the opportunity?
As Associate Director, Capital Markets Europe Financial Control, Line of Business Control (FC LOB), you will lead the London FC LOB team for our European businesses.
In addition, you will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and evolving financial controls in partnership with colleagues in the wider European Finance team and other business areas.
You will work in close partnership with the other CFO Group teams across the RBC Enterprise to provide full end to end controls on financial reporting for the Capital Markets Platform.
You will ensure effective Capital Markets Europe alignment to IFRS and RBC’s Accounting Policies and related policies,
standards and procedures for all internal and external reporting.
What will you do?
- Manage and develop a high performing team of financial accountants with responsibility for oversight and governance of the monthly close routine of RBC Capital Markets Europe businesses.
- Provide financial controllership of revenue, balance sheets and supplementary reporting across business lines for RBC Capital Markets Europe and associated legal entities to ensure IFRS compliance including oversight of the General Ledger infrastructure for new transits, books, accounts, and account mappings.
- Manage the delivery of the monthly ledger close process within reporting timelines including P&L;, Balance Sheet, and supplementary reporting, acting as an independent review function over end-to-end controls and reconciliations to ensure the Financial Control Framework covered by Sox is appropriately executed with issues escalated in a timely manner where necessary.
- Define and implement best practice financial controls and management processes consistently and in line with local and global accounting policies.
- Document and understand the end-to-end trade accounting flows by CM business line and / or system including data flows, accountabilities and key controls, and drive forward enhancements to business processes and / or IT solutions to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Actively engage with Product Control, Business Client Services, Finance IT and Front Office Businesses to provide sound accounting guidance and through the New Business Case process ensure key system accounting rules, controls and reconciliations are in place to maintain the integrity of financial statements, and that the most appropriate accounting infrastructure is in place to enable straight-through processing.
- To develop appropriate reporting to support financial controls with respect to the CM Europe business lines both regular and ad-hoc including trend and variance analysis.
This will include but is not limited to :
- Monthly CM Europe P&L; and Balance Sheet
- Associated monthly / quarterly / annual supplementary Head Office returns.
- Quarterly Risk Control Dashboard
- Balance Sheet Attestation activities for owned balances, and second level review of attestation package for other areas.
- EUDA controls and sign off
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Degree educated or similar / equivalent.
- Qualified Accountant (7yrs PQE).
- Majority of work experience gained in banking and financial services with excellent knowledge of IFRS accounting treatment for Capital Markets products.
- Strong people management and delivery skills.
- Experience of working in a global / matrix institution.
- Flexible working style with ability to deal with ambiguity and time pressures.
- High degree of analytical skills with strong attention to detail / accuracy.
- Structured and appropriate communication style oral and written.
- Collaborative and with strong influencing skills friendly and tenacious.
- Strategic mindset role requires forward thinking and ability to be innovative both in terms of processes and opportunities in end-to-end system infrastructure.

- Knowledge of RBC accounting ledgers and systems.
