The Head of Culture and Heritage is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to work in a borough that has made great strides in developing its culture and heritage offers in recent years.

Reporting in to the Strategic Director of Inclusive Growth and Place the postholder will be part of the senior management team within the directorate.

The postholder will lead the culture and heritage service which includes an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation and several arts and heritage assets.







We are currently in the final stages of consultation on a new Culture and Heritage Strategy, you can read more about the emerging themes here .

This strategy will set out a clear vision for the service to 2030 but there is ample opportunity for a new leader to put their mark on the implementation of the strategy.

Our residents are at the heart of the new strategy and the council is keen to ensure that all residents have the opportunity to engage in creative and cultural activities that are rooted in the heritage of the borough and our diverse communities.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues in public health and employment to ensure that opportunities in the sector can make real, positive change to many aspects of our residents' lives.

The post is offered as a full time position however for the right candidate we would consider offering the role as 0.8 FTE.

About you

You will need to be passionate about connecting people with opportunities and delivering inclusive and sustainable services.







You’ll have ideally successfully led culture, heritage or creative programmes and have a great understanding of the creative sector and the positive impact it can have on our residents' lives.

Dynamic and driven, you will know how to deliver results in a financially sustainable way. You will be able to engage and communicate with clarity to build strong relationships with our community, funders and our stakeholders across both public and private spheres.
