As an employer we host the trainee mental health / learning disability nurse apprenticeship role which sits alongside our existing registered nursing associates and registered nurses to deliver hands-on care for service users.

As well as alongside Allied Health Professional and medical colleagues too. Whilst a role in its own right within the field of nursing, once qualified, nursing associate role is also a gateway to becoming a registered Nurse via an additional apprenticeship route.

Main duties of the job Exciting opportunity for a Trainee Registered Nurse (MH / LD)





Apprenticeship within LYPFT.Our apprenticeship scheme is run in partnership with a leading learning provider to ensure you are fully supported through a high-quality training programme.

The apprenticeship will provide you with valuable experience and offer a strong foundation for future careers. You will be offered a permanent position in the Trust after you have successfully completed the apprenticeship programme.

We will support you with your learning and the skills needed to undertake the role. You will be supported by our Apprenticeship team and your team manager.

This apprenticeship requires you to have certificates in Maths and English at Level 2 (GCSE Grades 4-9 or Grades A-C, or equivalent) and existing associate Foundation Degree credits.

Whilst completing your apprenticeship you will be a band 4 Trainee Registered Nurse (Mental Health / Learning Disability).







You will be expected to fulfil the full role and responsibilities by the end of the training period. A development plan will be put in place by your line manager confirming the competencies they expect you to develop during that time.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will progress to band 5 Registered Nurse (Mental Health / Learning Disability).

Working for our organisation Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds.

We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching,





research and development.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship you must have been a UK resident for a minimum of 3 years and have right to work for the duration of the apprenticeship.

Department for Education’s Apprenticeship funding rules. You must not hold the same level of qualification (or above) in the same pathway or subject.

5 hours per week. We welcome applications for those who already work bank shifts within our organisation but you must be willing to move onto contracted hours of 30 37.







5 hours a week in a permanent role.The programme is structured so that you will experience a wide variety of clinical placements across the breadth of health and social care sectors in different organisations with the aim of giving you the widest exposure to healthcare.

Throughout the 2-year programme there are 18 weeks of spoke’ placements which you will be required to do in other service areas.

You will have assessed practice-based learning in your hub’ team. The course comprises of academic learning, practice placements and learning at work.

You will be expected to attend study days or block weeks (dependent on which University you are allocated to study at) and undertake Protected Learning Time’ in the team which you will be based in.

This ensures you meet the total learning hours required to complete the Undergraduate Degree at level 6.





On successful completion of the programme you will register with the Nursing Midwifery Council.

Trust policy states that if an existing employee chooses to apply for an apprenticeship vacancy, they will be paid at that apprenticeship rate, regardless of current or previous salary or banding.

Requests for variation from this will be considered by the Trust’s Management Panel where the outcome may be to approve or decline the request.
