One Biomedical Scientist Team Manager Band 7- Histopathology

nominally WGH based
Salary : £ 48,788 to £56,747
This is a full-time post but applicants requesting part-time hours will be considered
Applications are invited from extensively experienced and motivated Histopathology Biomedical Scientists with excellent leadership, organisational, quality management and training skills.
The post is based within Cellular Pathology (Histopathology).
The successful candidate must have experience of managing staff, experience and evidence of this as a band 6 specialist BMS is acceptable.
As a Team Manager you will organise laboratory huddles and management meetings, support training, staff management and staff development, quality assurance, audit and other aspects of clinical governance.
Previous and substantial work in an NHS Histopathology Laboratory is essential.
Cellular Pathology is one department across two sites within Edinburgh. Cellular Pathology in Lothian consists of well-equipped laboratories, with a combined workload of over 62,000 requests annually.
The Department is UKAS accredited.
The WGH site is primarily dissection orientated with specialist services such as Skin IF, frozen sections, Electron Microscopy and Muscle Enzyme Histochemistry.
There is also limited Diagnostic Cytology. The RIE is the main Histology Laboratory hub with Dissection, Processing, Special Stains, Immunohistochemistry and Renal IF, Frozen Sections, Paediatric and Neuropathology base, Diagnostic Cytology and Digital Pathology.
Cellular Pathology in Lothian is the only Cellular Pathology site in Scotland with on-call requirements due to the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit, there is also support for Renal Transplants.
Staff also support the Mohs clinic at the Lauriston site.
The on-call roster (1 in 12 days)
is a requirement for band 6 and 7 Histopathology staff. For this post a decision about being on the on-call roster will be based on the successful applicants current experience.
The WGH Team Manager is a co-site lead joining one other band 7 Team Manager who specialises in Electron Microscopy. In the WGH role there are opportunities to learn or develop specialised skills such as Dissection, Muscle Enzyme Histochemistry and Sural Nerve Resin processes and procedures.
Candidates must be HCPC registered, Educated to SCQF level 11 e.g. MSc or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma. IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology or equivalent experience.
These posts are pan-Lothian; successful applicants will be nominally based as indicated per post but depending on circumstances and Department requirement post sites could be changed to an alternative base.
The successful applicants would be expected to participate in Continuing Professional Development.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.
This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer / contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.
However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024,
you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
