Job description

Job overview

Due to government threshold guidelines the trust is unable to provide sponsorship for this role

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Blood Sciences within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL).

We are a new organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

Set up as an arms-length organisation, hosted by Barts Health NHS Trust, we have our own board and governance framework, with each of the three trusts having an equal voice and vote in the running of the Pathology Partnership.

One of the largest pathology providers in the NHS,

the Pathology Partnership brings together the strengths of teams from each of the three trusts into a single organisation, dedicated to the provision of high quality and cost-effective pathology services.

A complex transformation programme is concluding to establish a single, integrated pathology network between 7 hospital laboratories.

The aspired hub and spoke’ operating model is centred at The Royal London Hospital (RLH); a busy major trauma centre which hosts the London Air Ambulance, and connects to essential service laboratories supporting various clinical specialities at our partnered hospital sites.

Submitting your application early is recommended as the vacancy may close early if sufficient number of applicants is received before closing date.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a team of medical laboratory assistants to support the provision of our 24 / 7 service 7 days a week.

The role will deliver a hybrid function of specimen reception and laboratory duties for Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Infection divisions.

Applicants must have a strong team ethos, with a positive attitude to working in a flexible manner, committed to supporting the clinical services of the Trust and meeting the needs of our patients by participating in an Agenda for Change shift system.

The post holder will integrate with the technical & scientific laboratory team and will take direction from Biomedical Scientists in supporting Operational Leads for ESEL sites.

The successful candidate will be based at one of our Essential Service Laboratories (at Homerton or St Bartholomew’s Hospital) but as service demand dictates work at broader ESEL Pathology Partnership locations may be required.
