Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon

10 PAs Post

Fixed Term - 12 Months

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Urological Surgeon based on the Newham and Whipps cross sites for Barts Health. We are looking for a Consultant Urological Surgeon to help with the overall workload of the Urology department. This post is to support the diagnostic and core urology work in the department.

Key duties will be supervising and running operating lists, acute and specialist clinics, diagnostics, on call cover, ward rounds, and care for patients on wards in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward and specialist nursing teams. The unit is very active in research,





education and audit and the post holder will be expected to fully participate in all the above activities.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practise.

Main duties of the job

In-patient activity is based on the Surgical Unit with access to Paediatric day and in-patient beds as necessary. Day Care activity is centered on the in main theatres with patients housed Forest Ward pre and post operatively

Clinical Governance

The appointee will be required to participate in all clinical governance activities related to the Urology service. This will include contributing to: -

- clinical audit
- clinical risk activities
- clinical incident reporting
- responding to complaints within the Trust's expected timescale
- participating in the development of the involvement of users in planning and monitoring access to and standards of the service







The post-holder will assist with the safeguarding of high standards of care by participating in the creation of an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish.

Job responsibilities

The post holder is clinically responsible to the Clinical Director of the specialty you are applying for in the Operations Directorate and managerially accountable to the Chief Operating Officer for the trust. The post is covered by the National Health Service terms and conditions of service for Hospital Medical and Dental staff (England and Wales). The appointment is pensionable unless the appointee chooses to opt out of the National Health Service Pension Scheme







The successful candidate will also receive London Weighting Allowance and applicable consultant intensity payments.

The successful candidate will be required to complete a health statement and the trust may require a medical examination as a condition of employment.

Because of the nature of the work of this post, it is exempt from the provision of Section 4 (2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exception Order 1975). Applicants are therefore not entitled to withhold information about convictions including those for which other purposes are spent under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment, any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Trust.





Any such information should be sent in confidence to the Medical Director and will only be considered in relation to an application for positions to which the order applies.

The post-holder will be required to live less than 15 miles by road from the main unit, unless the Trust determines that residence at greater distance is acceptable. The distance of 15 miles usually equates with a travelling time to the hospital of approximately 30 minutes. Job description
