An exciting opportunity to join our growing non-fiction team

We’re excited to announce an opportunity for an Associate Literary Agent or Literary Agent Assistant to support Emma Bal in our non-fiction department, and – if experience is appropriate – with a view to building their own list of authors, expanding the agency’s dynamic non-fiction offering.

We’re seeking individuals with publishing experience from various departments and are passionate, ambitious, and hardworking with a genuine curiosity about the world and how non-fiction can inspire. You should have strong administrative, organisational, and communication skills. Ideally,

you have some publishing experience at a junior level and are ready to take the next step toward becoming a Literary Agent.

As part of a dynamic and motivated group, you’ll have attention to detail, strong author support skills, and the initiative to seek out talent in your areas of interest. Above all, you should be enthusiastic about cultivating and managing writers’ careers and discovering new voices in a variety of non-fiction subjects.

This is an ideal chance to support and learn from an established Non-fiction Literary Agent. The right candidate has the potential to progress quickly within a highly ambitious and approachable agency.

We’re seeking individuals with publishing experience from various departments who are interested in different non-fiction genres, as we look to expand our team in exciting ways.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

- Supporting Emma in the day-today running of the non-fiction department, such as assisting with contracts, author comms, chasing payments, database and website admin, etc.
- Stay updated on market trends and cultural currents

- Critically evaluate book proposals and assess their potential
- Author support
- Scout new talent

Benefits of the role include:

- Hybrid working arrangement
- Flexible working hours
- Summer hours: finishing at 1pm for the months of July and August.
- Staff are entitled to two weeks of concurrent remote work under our Agency Nomad scheme, allowing them to work remotely from anywhere in the world.

Please apply with your CV and a covering letter that includes your notice period (if relevant) and the last 5 books you have enjoyed. Applications are to be sent to Emma Bal at [email protected] by the end of Friday 22nd November 2024.

We reserve the right to close the recruitment process early if we have found the right candidate.

The salary is based on experience but we are offering a minimum of £25,000 per year.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of race, religion, age, background, disability, gender or sexual orientation.
