Are you a qualified and experienced cook / chef with a friendly manner and a love of children? If the answer is yes then please read on!
Sunderland City Council are looking to recruit Relief Catering Supervisors to work in the school meals service. By joining our friendly team, you will be working for an established and trusted public sector employer that values and respects its employees and seeks to nurture and develop the talents and skills of its workforce.
With around 65 schools spanning across all areas of the City of Sunderland, including Houghton-Le-Spring and Washington, we serve over 10,000 nutritious and delicious meals to children every school day. We take pride in our quality standards and the talents of our workforce.
We are looking for experienced chefs / cooks / assistant cooks who are looking for the next step into managing a school kitchen. This is a permanent role with a guaranteed minimum number of contracted hours (which may increase depending on the kitchen being covered), access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, and opportunities for personal development and progression within the service.
You will need to have had previous experience working in a cooking capacity (e.g., chef, cook) and ideally also have a cooking qualification (C&G; 7061/2 / NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
It is a hands-on role, and you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of 2 main course meals, as well as sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads, and desserts to pupils and school staff (daily meal numbers ranging anywhere between 50 – 300 / day). You’ll be responsible for supervising the team of staff within the kitchen, overseeing all day-to-day kitchen and service matters,
as well as administration and paperwork duties such as food ordering, stock taking, and completing wage returns.
Working in a school environment is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling but requires a customer-friendly approach and a happy and positive manner.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS check from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
This is a mobile role, so it will require covering in a range of different school kitchens across the City in the absence of the school Catering Supervisor. Successful applicants will need the means of travelling between sites as required.
