You are warmly invited to apply for the post of Lead Practitioner in Science at St Columba’s Catholic Boys’ School. We are seeking a skilled, committed, and passionate practitioner to take a leading role and support school leaders in further improving the standards of teaching and learning within the department.
The successful candidate will have a passion for teaching science, have excellent subject and pedagogy knowledge and be able to inspire and motivate all pupils through exceptional practice. St Columba's is a small Catholic comprehensive school for boys aged 11 – 16 in the London Borough of Bexley. The school’s ethos and vision is that every member of our school community is a unique and special creation of God and is known, cared for and valued for the contribution they make. We are part of the South-East London Catholic Academy Trust (SELCAT) whose vision is to provide schools where all children will be empowered, inspired and flourish; the successful applicant will be confident to develop this aspect within the school.
St Columba's most recent full Ofsted inspection (January 2019)
judged the school to be a good school and said that the values we hold ‘…are evident in the safe and welcoming community the school has become.’ They also said that ‘Warm and positive relationships are a strong feature..’ and this includes the parent body who when questioned by Ofsted ‘…are extremely positive about the school’ and ‘Virtually all respondents would recommend (the school) to other parents.’
When appointed, the Science Lead Practitioner will take a role in developing, implementing and evaluating relevant policies and practice, which might include:
· Sharing knowledge from research about best practice in teaching and learning for classroom inclusion to support continuing professional development
· Monitoring and evaluating the impact of the Quality of Education Improvement Team, including through classroom observations
· Supporting the creation of high-quality, inclusive schemes of work.
· Coaching, mentoring,
team teaching and modelling outstanding practice to support teachers including trainees and early-career teachers and colleagues who may be struggling.
The successful candidate will have a teaching timetable which reflects the school’s commitment to provide time to do this role effectively.
