Job description
What you’ll be doing
- Working closely with BT’s world-class researchers, developers, and commercialisation specialists to identify inventions, determine suitability for patent protection, and draft patent applications
- Taking responsibility for prosecuting and maintaining a portion of BT’s patent portfolio in a timely, cost-effective, and commercially strategic manner
- Influencing BT's patent strategy and procedures for obtaining, maintaining, and commercialising its global patent portfolio
- Contributing to knowledge sharing and peer review activities for continuous development of excellence across our close-knit Patents Team
- Supporting IP commercialisation activities, litigation, IP disputes, and negotiations
- Advising BT colleagues on IP-related issues impacting business decisions
- Raising awareness of the commercial impact of IP within BT
The skills you will need
- Qualified European Patent Attorney and UK Chartered Patent Attorney, with at least 3 years’ post-qualification experience
- Rights of Representation before the UK, European, and Unified Patent Court authorities
- Extensive patent drafting and prosecution experience, preferably focussed on computer-implemented inventions
- Ability to understand the work of BT's research, development, engineering, and technical teams, e.g. in areas such as cybersecurity, machine learning, and telecommunications networks
- Experience in one or more of : litigation, post-grant legal procedures, IP disputes, and negotiations
