Job description

In collaboration with Dementia UK, Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit an exceptional registered nurse with a passion for, and experience of, providing relationship centred dementia care to join our Dementia and Delirium team as an Admiral Nurse.

The Admiral Nurse will lead, deliver and coordinate relationship-centred dementia care, in order to improve the experience of carers / families affected by Dementia with complex needs, during the acute stay and transitions of care within operational areas

Main duties of the job







Dementia UK will support you to maintain and strengthen your clinical and leadership expertise as a specialist Admiral Nurse through regular clinical supervision and practice and professional development opportunities.

You'll become a welcome part of a network of Admiral Nurses, and will have the opportunity to access relevant post-graduate training and development.

In line with the Admiral Nurse Competency framework at an enhanced specialist level, the post holder will provide :

- Specialist bio-psychosocial assessment and support for people with Dementia and families with complex needs
- Facilitation of education and training for staff in the delivery of evidence-based Dementia care
- Clinical leadership with policy development and quality improvements
- Consultancy to other health and social care professionals regarding Dementia
- Manage a team of Admiral Nurses within The Dudley Group

Qualifications

Essential criteria

- Registered Nurse (RN / RNMH / RNLD) with current NMC registration
- Evidence of continued professional development / training in relevant areas, including dementia and leadership






- Completion of Dementia UK’s Pre Admiral Nurse e-learning course

Desirable criteria

Post graduate qualification in relevant field

Experience

Essential criteria

- Significant post registration clinical experience of supporting people with dementia and their carers / families
- Experience of professional supervision and leadership of staff, including staff development, critical companionship, and role modelling
- Significant experience of completing bio-psychosocial interventions
- Experience of planning, leading and undertaking audit and benchmarking and developing and leading on action plans to improve practice
- Experience of managing care transitions
- Experience of developing training packages and delivering training to a variety of clinical and non-clinical staff







Desirable criteria

- Experience in working with Dementia in an Acute Setting
- Experience of leading / managing a service
- Experience of supporting practice development / quality improvement and service evaluation

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Ability to demonstrate the 6 Admiral Nurse competencies
- Ability to influence change and act as a decision maker
- Indepth knowledge of current evidence based practice, national drivers and service improvements for patients with Dementia and their families
- Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner and can demonstrate innovative practice
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by patients, families and staff when people with Dementia are admitted to an acute hospital environment
