This is a replacement, full time (10 PA) Consultant Paediatric Radiology posts based at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC).







We wish to appoint general paediatric radiologist to join the current team of 6 general paediatric radiologists in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children (BRHC) to meet increased demand on the service.

We provide specialist paediatric radiology services for hospital in patients, Greater Bristol outpatients and tertiary paediatric services for the South West.

Neuroimaging is provided by neuroradiology colleagues from North Bristol with a separate on-call rota.

The successful candidate will work with the existing team to provide secondary and tertiary paediatric imaging and will be encouraged to a develop sub-specialty interest.

They will be required to take part in

the delivery of the emergency paediatric imaging services for the Trust. This will include all relevant modalities, including plain film reporting, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and interventional procedures as necessary.

They will also take a central role in MDTs and clinicoradiological meetings.

We have merged with Western General Hospital and now provide paediatric imaging services for their patients.





This is being provided on a remote basis and there is no current plan for physical presence.

Further alignment is happening with Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust in regards to neonatal imaging and service provision may become part of future consultant job plans

Clinical Governance and Audit

Essential criteria

- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Positive approach to evidence based practice
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
- Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview

Desirable criteria

Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria

- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant specialty
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- Knowledge of leading multidisciplinary team meetings
- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty

Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy

Clinical Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

- Management and leadership skills
- Interpersonal and communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues)
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English
- Team working skills (ability to be a flexible team member, to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multi-professional basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions)

Desirable criteria

- Broad range of IT skills
- Formal teaching qualification

Research

Essential criteria

- Knowledge of the principles involved in research
- Evidence of involvement in research
- Evidence of peer review research papers

Desirable criteria

Ability to increase the academic profile of the department.

Teaching and Training

Essential criteria

- Experience of teaching medical students.
- Experience of supervising trainees
- Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team

Management & Leadership

Essential criteria

- Evidence of management training and evidence of learning from it
- Ability to organise efficient and smooth running of a specialist service






- Ability to cope with and effectively organise the workload of a consultant
- Ability to practice independently as a consultant
- Ability to take on responsibility and show evidence of leadership
- Ability to work under pressure and cope with setbacks

Desirable criteria

- Demonstration of knowledge of NHS management structures
- Management experience

Interpersonal, communication and team working skills

Essential criteria

- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues.
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use, spoken and written English.
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
