Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant Talking Therapies Team in Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Waltham Forrest and Havering.

The Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner- Apprentice will be training to provide high volume low-intensity CBT-based interventions.

This will include cognitive behavioural theory and practice in the format of guided self-help. This will be delivered over the phone, via video calls and face-to-face

We are collaborating with the University of Essex to offer the Postgraduate low-intensity CBT certificate. Your time in this fixed term role will be split between some days in university where you will be taught how to deliver CBT based psychological interventions,





and some days working in our Talking Therapies service where you will be putting the teaching into practice with clients.

Main duties of the job

We are a dynamic and empowering team and as such the post holders will be expected to work well within a team setting, however, should also be able to deliver an autonomous service as part of the role, operating within recognised professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s services policies and procedures.

Main duties and responsibilities :

- To assess people with common mental health difficulties
- To provide CBT based psychological support for people with common mental health difficulties such as symptoms of Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Panic Disorder






- Deliver CBT based psychological support via telephone, video sessions, computerised CBT of face-to-face
- To co-facilitate CBT based treatment groups for people with common mental health difficulties with the support of a qualified clinician.

This usually begins during the last term of your course

- To actively make use of clinical supervision for all client-related tasks in order to review and improve the effectiveness of interventions offered.
- To complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service
- To complete the course

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.







As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum).

Talking Therapies Redbridge provides psychological treatment for people in the community with mild to moderate symptoms of depression and specific anxiety disorders.







Talking Therapies Redbridge can provide treatment for people who experience difficulties including; Depression, Panic, Phobia, Agoraphobia, Social Phobia, Health Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, medically unexplained physical symptoms and long term conditions.

This allows our trainees to gain experience in assessing a number of different mental health presentations.

We offer a range of therapies including : CBT Based guided self-help (which is delivered by trainee and qualified PWPs), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT), Couples Therapy for depression, Behavioural Couples Therapy, Counselling (delivered by CBT therapists and counsellors) and a wide selection of courses,





groups and workshops.

We also have a Physical Activity Coordinator who works closely with therapists to provide additional support and advice.

As a service, we have developed a robust group program to support a variety of clients. These group programmes include a PTSD workshop, worry management group, sleep improvement group, stress management group, and a depression group.

We are continuously developing our long term conditions pathway; at present we are developing a pain management group, a group for clients with diabetes, and a group for clients with .

We are an innovative team and welcoming of new ideas for groups as such some of these groups were created and developed by PWPs and CBT therapists in the last few months.







We pride ourselves on being a supportive service continually promoting the professional development of our staff. Clinicians regularly receive in-house training as well as external delivered training by services within and outside the NHS.

Trainee PWP will have weekly case management supervision, weekly clinical skills supervision, and line management supervision monthly.

We also have a duty supervisor that is available daily to support with clinicians with supervision of cases.

We are currently predominantly working remotely and offer telephone, video sessions face to face sessions. Staff typically work one day a week in the office, which staff have found to be beneficial with regards to maintaining team cohesion and for developing face to face clinical skills.

Staff wellbeing is most important to the trust and TTBD, this is demonstrated with our wellbeing initiative which staff are actively encouraged to engage with regularly via email and at our zoom lunches

Training & Qualifications :

- The post holder to demonstrate psychological mindedness : .
- Graduate certificate route- To have NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy.

Experience :

- Experience in working with mental health service users in an NHS service or in the voluntary sector
- Experience of working in service with agreed targets in place, demonstrating clinical outcomes
- Relevant care experience (such as care worker, support worker, healthcare assistant, healthcare administration, Support, Time & Recovery workers etc for a period of one year

Skills :

- The post holder will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills
- Able to develop a good therapeutic relationship with clients
- Can demonstrate the ability to study at degree level.

Knowledge :

- To demonstrate an understanding of anxiety and depression and how they may present in primary care
- To demonstrate an understanding of the need to use evidence-based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

- Post graduate Route : Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree. OR Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, counselling or within a psychological therapy Undergraduate Route : relevant care experience (such as care worker, support worker, healthcare assistant, healthcare administration, Support, Time & Recovery workers etc for a period of one year)
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent standard of literacy and numeracy

Experience

Essential criteria

- Experience of working in adult mental health services or a care setting.
- Able to write clear reports and letters
- Carried out groups or have completed some level of group work

Desirable criteria

- Experience of working in a primary mental health service
- Experience of working in mental health for greater than an year
- Evidence of working in the local community

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary

Desirable criteria

- Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
- Demonstrates an understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post
- Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health

Skills and Competencies
