About Us
The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL’s new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible. We are an innovative hybrid: a professional services department that delivers reliable and secure infrastructure and services to UCL research groups,
and a laboratory for research and innovation in the application of advanced computational and data intensive research methods, working in partnership with academics from all fields.
We are a home for the research technology professionals - research software engineers, HPC systems engineers, dev-ops specialists, data engineers, data scientists and data stewards - who support and collaborate in the delivery of UCL research.
About The Role
As a Research Data Steward (AKA research data manager, data consultant, data wrangler, or bioinformatician) you'll provide technically focused support and consultancy to researchers at UCL, helping them to improve their data management, aligning with university and funder policies and modern best practices.
You may spend time working collaboratively on research projects, contributing to new research proposals and collaborating on research data service design, feeding in researcher requirements to ensure that the suite of research support services offered by UCL remains relevant and effective.
This is a Hybrid working role.
Salary range for the Senior Research Data Steward: £51,474 to £65,698 (including London Allowance) depending on experience. USS pension Scheme offers staff contribute 6.1% and UCL will contribute 14.6%

About You
To be a Research Data Steward at UCL you will need experience of conducting or supporting data-intensive research in an academic research environment and the technical skills to document, process and transform data. You'll need to be an excellent communicator with the ability to explain technical and specialised concepts clearly to non-technical academic and support staff.
For this post, we are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in Trusted Research, with a strong background in working with sensitive data, ideally from a governance perspective. You should understand information security and risk management, and have good knowledge of the issues involved in processing and disseminating sensitive data.
Applicants should therefore have demonstrable experience of delivering in one or more of the following areas: the ISO27001 standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS), Trusted Research Environments (TRE), Secure Data Environments (SDE), Data Safe Havens (DSH), the ‘Five Safes’ framework, and/or Digital Economy Act (DEA) accreditation.
This role meets the eligibility requirements for a skilled worker certificate of sponsorship or a global talent visa under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL welcomes applications from international applicants who require a visa.
