Offer Description

Southampton Law School is a global Law School, firmly rooted in the UK with a mission to respond to the greatest global challenges that humanity faces.

We have a robust internationalisation agenda and as a Law School in the Russell Group (QS ranked 78th) we are committed to research-driven legal education as well as engaged, innovative and impactful scholarship. Southampton Law School was ranked 16th in the UK in REF2021 for outputs. This places us in the top 25% of Law Schools in the UK, with 81% of all outputs submitted considered to be “world-leading” or “internationally excellent”. Our triple helix approach (people, education, research and enterprise) accentuates the value of our people and exemplifies our constant pursuit of solidarity and social cohesion among staff members, who comprise a diverse international cohort of renowned leading as well as early career researchers.

We intend to appoint a lecturer who can teach our core modules, which are Contract Law, Administrative and Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, EU Law, Tort Law, as well as Land Law and Equity and Trusts.

Successful candidates will have a PhD in Law or equivalent professional qualifications for the L 5 position or evidence of registration for a PhD and significant progress towards completion (for the L 4 position). The successful candidate will be expected to make an all-around contribution to education and research delivery as well as fulfil a leadership role in the School. As such, you will be expected to have evidence of teaching experience in English Private Law. You will be expected to have a research profile including published work and external research funding engagement commensurate with your career stage. You will be committed to high-quality research and to building a vibrant student experience and community. Visible and collegiate, you will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the School's activities including student recruitment and outreach.

Research in the Law School currently clusters around a number of research centres including those for Property, People and Community Centre; Private and Commercial Law (PCL); Maritime Law (IML); Law; International Law and Globalisation; Global Constitutionalism, Law and Technology, the Stefan Cross Centre for Women, Equality and Law and the Centre for Justice Studies. Colleagues are also involved in individual and collaborative scholarship in numerous other fields, often interdisciplinary.

What we can offer you

Based at our lively Highfield campus, you will have access to state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, as well as our sports complex, Hartley Library and Staff Social Centre.

Having secured a £300m bond investment we are committed to investing in the University's future and long-term stability.

The UoS believes in supporting and promoting equality and diversity to create an inclusive working environment. We believe this can be achieved through attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse range of staff from many different backgrounds who share our ambition to be a university recognised for delivering world-class research and creating a community that values independent thought.
