Breast Radiology Consultant Whittington Health NHS Trust

The Whittington Health NHS Trust would like to appoint a full time (10PAs) consultant radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Breast Radiology.

This would require being onsite Mondays and Fridays at the main Whittington hospital site in Archway, North London, providing general cross sectional reporting services, including hotseat cover.

You will be expected to participate in the general acute radiology on-call service, with the current on-call frequency of 1 in 20 second on-call.

You will also be expected to participate in sharing onsite consultant cover to the new Wood Green Community Diagnostic Centre, hosted by the Whittington hospital,





in conjunction with 7 other consultants as part of their job plan.

You will have access to a reporting workstation at home as part of a service plan to promote flexible working via home reporting.

Participation in teaching of the rotating 9 onsite UCL radiology trainees will be expected.

You should have full UK GMC registration and unrestricted / full license to practice as well as demonstrating commensurate specialist training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties of the post

The department operates a standards-based approach to service delivery with defined standing operating procedures and quality standards for all members of the department.

The successful applicant(s)





will be expected to actively participate in this vital aspect of the department’s function. It is intended that following the Trust’s review of routine working hours it will be possible to offer a more flexible on-site presence in exchange for flexible working.

These proposals include exploring teleradiology and or home working.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide sessional hotseat cover with an SpR (emergency CT scanning), report weekly outpatient CT lists and take part in the consultant on call rota (1 : 15 -1 : 20) like their colleagues and also to audit their own and departmental practice.

The post-holder will be expected to take part in appropriate accreditation activities including External Quality Assurance Schemes and participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.







The Trust will ensure that time and financial support are available to allow every consultant to comply with the Royal College of Radiologists annual requirements for CPD.

Person specification

Education / qualification

Essential criteria

- The Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or equivalent.
- Possession of CCT in Radiology or within 6 months of application for CCST general radiology.

Desirable criteria

- Knowledge of relevant developments in the NHS including primary care, government initiatives and national standards.
- Specific management training.

Experience

Essential criteria







- Demonstrate experience in cross sectional & have training to ST4-5 Breast subspeciality training (level 2).
- Demonstrate experience of participating in on-call rota.

Desirable criteria

Previous experience of working in a team.

Skills / Abilities

Essential criteria

Good written and oral communication skills

Desirable criteria

- Evidence of awareness of current developments in Imaging technology.
- Interest in and willingness to undertake additional training.

Management Ability

Essential criteria

- Ability to develop, present and implement coherent ideas for service development.
- Ability to develop multidisciplinary team working.

Desirable criteria

- Demonstrable team leadership qualities and staff management skills.
- Knowledge of NHS developments

Teaching

Essential criteria







- Experience and interest in undergraduate teaching.
- Skill and ability in formal and informal teaching for both under- and post-graduate students / staff.
- Willingness to acquire a recognised teaching qualification or equivalent

Desirable criteria

- An understanding of current issues in medical education .
- Possesses a teaching qualification

Research

Essential criteria

- Willingness to participate in research
- Evidence of sustained participation in audit.

Desirable criteria

Training in Audit and Research methods.

- Commitment to medical education
- Commitment to effective liaison and collaboration with Primary Care.






- Prepared to work in support of the overall aims of the Trust and Imaging Department.
