Job description
Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Breast Radiology, to the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will be based at North Manchester General Hospital and Royal Oldham Hospital as part of the unified Manchester Breast Service to provide support for the symptomatic breast clinics and MDT meetings.
If the successful applicant wishes to undertake breast screening, these sessions will be based at the Nightingale Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital.
Interests in a second subspecialty and candidates seeking part time employment may be considered.
The duties of the posts are to contribute to the Breast Care Services together with 13 other Consultant Radiologists and a consultant Radiographer.
The appointee will also be expected to take part in regular departmental audit and research activities.
Main duties of the job
The candidate is expected to be fully competent in all aspects of Breast Imaging including :
- Breast Symptomatic Film Readingincluding tomosynthesis
- Ultrasound
- Image-guided biopsies
- Stereotactic and US guided wire localisations
- Breast MDM presentation
- Vacuum assisted biopsies and reporting cross sectional imaging are desirable
- Fully registered medical practitioner with the General Medical Council
- F.R.C.R. or equivalent

- Presentation at a scientific meeting
- Peer Reviewed publications
Training
Essential
- Eligible for award of CCT or within 6 months of award of CCT in Radiology and for name to appear on specialist register of GMC
- Completion of sub specialty training in Breast Imaging
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable
- Knowledge of IT in radiology
- Experience in drawing up clinical protocols
Experience
Essential
- Wide experience in Breast Radiology
- Experience and interest in undergraduate and post graduate teaching
- Knowledge of clinical governance
- Appreciation and understanding of the role of the management
Desirable
- Experience in NHS BSP screening reporting and screening assessment
- Recognised teaching skills
- Relevant teaching qualification
- Publications and Audit presentations
- Evidence of possession of management skills
