An opportunity has arisen for a locum consultant in obstetrics & gynaecology post to start from 1st October 2024. It isaninterimpostinitially for12months to cover maternity leave.
The successful candidate will join the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the North Middlesex Hospital and the appointee will join the other 17 Consultants.
Thenewappointeeswilljoinabusyandsupportivedepartmentwithastrong commitmenttohigh standards of patient care.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the appointees will take a full part in delivering the undergraduate curriculum, both to trainees and medical students attached to the department
The North Middlesex Hospital is in a state of rapid change with a brand new purpose-built Accident and Emergency Department which houses a Gynaecology Emergency Room.
We have an active Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit / Emergency Gynaecology Unit, with two trained nurse ultrasonographers plus 5 Consultant sessions, two ultrasound machines with pulsed colour Doppler facilities, and daily beta-hCG assays.
The hospital has been designated as a Cancer Unit within the North Central London Oncology network.
There are modern, up-to-date facilities for minimal access gynaecological surgery including video cameras, laparoscopes, hystero-resectoscopes, Novasure endometrial ablation.
The success of the service has led to increased demand for minimal access surgery from GPs and patients. There are weekly out-patient hysteroscopy clinics.
There is at present one weekly gynaecological urodynamic session. Enfield and Haringey Health Authority employ a senior nurse incontinence advisor and there is an active incontinence support group with a senior physiotherapist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a general gynaecologist / obstetrician post with 08 PAs per week, 7.0 DCC and 1.0 SPA. It is desirable to have a special interest in High-risk obstetrics, adolescent gynaecology, two-week cancer pathway management.
The on-call Consultant will be covering caesarean section list and Labour Ward and gynaecology from 1600 hrs on call till 2200 hrs by being on site alternating withother teamcolleagues.
There will bea1 : 16on call commitmentatNorth Middlesex University Hospital. There is a 1 :
16 hotweek commitment for gynaecology on call.
Theother clinical sessions willinclude weekly antenatal clinics, General Gynaecology / Rapid Access clinics and, there may be provision of community gynaecology clinic sessions apart from clinical administration session.
There is a possibility of developing a special interest session in line with departmental needs and requirements.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- Medical Degree MBBS or equivalent
- MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
- CCT or eligibility for entry within 6months of the date of AAC
- ATSM in advanced labour ward
Desirable criteria
Higher degree MD, PhD
