We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Apprenticeship Business Development Manager in the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment (CEBE) within the Directorate of Student and Academic Services (SAAS).

The Directorate of Student and Academic Services (SAAS) leads on the development and provision of outstanding student facing services. The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that students have an excellent experience and provides services across the student and academic lifecycle from enrolment to graduation,





covering everything from wellbeing services to ensuring new courses are set up correctly.

The postholder will support the Faculty of Computing, Engineering, and the Built Environment (CEBE) to engage with key strategic partners enabling BCU to grow its apprenticeship numbers within specific disciplines to meet the local and regional demand from employers, and to create a culture of cross-faculty partnership working to meet workforce supply needs and drive income through securing new business within apprenticeships.

You will work with strategic stakeholders such as health trusts,





local authorities and businesses alongside the University faculties to develop academic provision which provides the skilled workforces required and develop opportunities in research and knowledge exchange thereby facilitating economic growth in the region. The postholder will work closely with relevant academic and Professional Services colleagues in the creation of curriculum, teaching, knowledge exchange and research to align with employer need and to meet the apprentice growth targets as outlined in BCU’s apprenticeship plan.

You will have a first degree or equivalent relevant experience, and proven experience and successful track record in developing strategic partnerships with the public and private sector that generate commercial income.





You will have demonstrable experience of liaising with executive level colleagues in large organisations and/or local authority and industry sectors to generate opportunities for business growth, and experience of working with businesses to identify need and generate competitive costings and compelling proposals and programmes of work. You will have experience of apprenticeship levy use and delivery of apprenticeship programmes, and working to support the development of employment focused curricula. You will have a good understanding of the broad principles underpinning workforce planning associated with Strategic Economic Plans, and of policies associated with Higher Education and Apprenticeships.

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University.





Appointees with prior LGPS membership who wish to enter the LGPS scheme will be able to do so, and will be employed by Birmingham City University directly
