What skills and experience we're looking for
LEVEL 2 - To work under the instruction/guidance ofteaching/senior staff to undertake work/care/support programmes, to enableaccess to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management ofpupils and the classroom. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outsidethe main teaching area.
SUPPORT FOR PUPILS
oSupervise and provide particular support forpupils, including those with special needs,
ensuring their safety and access tolearning activities
oAssist with the development and implementation of Individual Education/Behaviour Plans and Personal Care programmes
oEstablish constructive relationships withpupils and interact with them according to individual needs
oPromote the inclusion and acceptance of allpupils
oEncourage pupils to interact with others andengage in activities led by the teacher
oSet challenging and demanding expectations andpromote self-esteem and independence
oProvide feedback to pupils in relation toprogress and achievement under guidance of the teacher
SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS
oCreate and maintain a purposeful, orderly andsupportive environment, in accordance with lesson plans and assist with thedisplay of pupils' work
oUse strategies, in liaison with the teacher, tosupport pupils to achieve learning goals
oAssist with the planning of learning activities
oMonitor pupils' responses to learningactivities and accurately record achievement/progress as directed
oProvide detailed and regular feedback toteachers on pupils achievement, progress, problems etc
oPromote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptlywith conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouragepupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour
oEstablish constructive relationships withparents/carers
oAdminister routine tests and invigilate examsand undertake routine marking of pupils' work
oProvide clerical/admin. support e.g.photocopying, typing, filing, money, administer coursework etc.
SUPPORT FOR THE CURRICULUM
oUndertake structured and agreed learningactivities/teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupilresponses
oUndertake programmes linked to local andnational learning strategies e.g. literacy, numeracy, KS3,
early yearsrecording achievement and progress and feeding back to the teacher
oSupport the use of ICT in learning activitiesand develop pupils' competence and independence in its use
oPrepare, maintain and use equipment/resourcesrequired to meet the lesson plans/relevant learning activity and assist pupilsin their use
SUPPORT FOR THE SCHOOL
oBe aware of and comply with policies andprocedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security,confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriateperson
oBe aware of and support difference and ensureall pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
oContribute to the overall ethos/work/aims ofthe school
oAppreciate and support the role of otherprofessionals
oAttend and participate in relevant meetings asrequired
oParticipate in training and other learningactivities and performance development as required
oAssist with the supervision of pupils out oflesson times, including before and after school and at lunchtime
oAccompany teaching staff and pupils on visits,trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for agroup under the supervision of the teacher

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience
oWorking with or caring for children of relevantage
Qualifications
oGood numeracy/literacy skills
oCompletion of DfES Teacher Assistant Induction Programme
oNVQ 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalentqualifications or experience
oTraining in the relevant learning . literacy
oFirst aid training/training as appropriate
Knowledge & Skills
oEffective use of ICT to support learning
oUse of other equipment technology - video,photocopier
oUnderstanding of relevant polices/codes ofpractice and awareness of relevant legislation
oGeneral understanding of national/foundationstage curriculum and other basic learning programmes/strategies
oBasic understanding of child development andlearning
oAbility to self-evaluate learning needs andactively seek learning opportunities
oAbility to relate well to children and adults
