Planning Officer Role Profile
How would you like to take the next step in your career by playing a key role in Plymouth City Council’s multi-award winning planning service? We are looking for a proactive individual to join as a senior Planning Officer within our Infrastructure Planning Team.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead projects within the service and get involved in the heart of strategic planning and its delivery. The post holder will be leading on Infrastructure Planning as well as other planning initiatives and will be expected to take on key projects related to:
- Engaging and working with infrastructure providers.
- Planning for infrastructure within the city.
- Gathering and analysing information and evidence relating to infrastructure need and provision.
- Exploring options for funding and how infrastructure can be brought forward.
- Monitoring infrastructure delivery.
- Preparation and delivery of local plan evidence, policies and proposals, including giving evidence at examinations and working as part of a team to deliver a Local Plan.
- Creation of planning documents related to Infrastructure Planning.
In addition, experience of the principles of development viability in the context of planning is desirable.
We are looking for someone who:
- Can work collaboratively with partners and lead people effectively to achieve the city’s vision and objectives.
- Can think innovatively and creatively about infrastructure provision and provide options and direction for Infrastructure strategy.
- Brings a practical but creative understanding of infrastructure need and delivery.
- Has experience of project management, especially in the production of planning evidence and documents.
- Will take care over the detail of their work.
- Can procure and oversee consultants’ contributions to projects.
- Will champion the digital agenda within the planning department,
and consider opportunities to deploy modern solutions to the way in which we carry out planning to achieve better outcomes and in order to help enable others to engage with the system at its various stages.
- Will contribute the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver simpler, faster, and more accessible plan making.
Membership, or eligibility for membership, of the RTPI or an appropriate professional institute is essential.
