Job Title : English and Maths Tutor
Location :
HMP The Mount, Hemel, Hempstead
£30,000 - £33,000 Per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)
Based on-site at HMP The Mount, Hemel, Hempstead, working with youth offenders helping them towards their qualification, to help them better their opporutnites for their release.
Full time perm, working hours Monday Thursday 7 : 45-5pm, Friday 7 : 45-12 : 30pm.
Salary from £30kp.a. (can go up to £33kp.a. for fully qualified teacher with right experience).
Job Duties :
Plan and deliver engaging and effective English and Maths lessons
As a Tutor delivering education in prisons, you can really make a difference to improve people’s lives. Challenging,
yet extremely rewarding, this role plays a significant part in helping to reduce our learners re-offending.
Our Tutors play an integral part in identifying the training requirements of our learners, building them a training plan and helping them to overcome any barriers to employment
- Identifying the individual needs of learners ensuring that all learners have an individual learning plan which links to their long-term employment goals.
- Continually reviewing our learner’s progression to ensure that the training continues to meet their identified needs.
- Preparing, delivering and reviewing comprehensive lesson plans for all sessions that address the training needs of the group including basic literacy, numeracy, language and other social / employability barriers to employment.
- Actively gaining feedback from learners and other sources, reviewing & improving curriculum content accordingly.
- Engaging and motivating both individuals and learner groups to increase retention.
- Completing all of the necessary administration e.g. registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, Awarding Body documentation as determined by external and internal requirements in line with contractual deadlines.
- Working with colleagues / hosts to assist learner’s progression towards qualifications, and movement into employment.
- Roles may vary in some detail between sites and flexibility is a prime requirement of staff.
- Contractual KPIs for success and performance to be met.
- Prison based roles are 100% site based, with the expectation of prisoner face to face contact
Required Qualifications :
- Relevant degree in English, Maths, Education, or related field
- Teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, or equivalent)
- Enhanced DBS check
- Client is willing to put anyone through their Level 5 teaching qualification, if havent got it already which may reflect in salary.
Education :
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in English, Maths, Education, or related field
Experience :
Proven experience in teaching English and Maths to students of varying abilities
Knowledge and Skills :
- Strong understanding of the English and Maths curriculum
- Ability to create engaging lesson plans
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Effective classroom management skills
Preferred Qualifications :
- Master's degree in Education or related field
- Experience working with special educational needs students
Working Conditions :
- Working hours : Mon-Thurs 7 : 45am - 5pm, Fri 7 : 45am - 12 : 30pm
- Collaboration with other teachers and staff members
- Regular communication with parents and stakeholders
