Band 6 Sister / Charge Nurse

Adult Critical Care Unit (ACCU)

Main duties of the job

We offer extensive development opportunities like, ILS, ALS, CALS, ICU Transfer Training, Band 6 forums and airway management days.

Our department offer support in its infrastructure as you will be allocated to work within a nursing team managed by a band 7 and have regular team away days.







Your learning and development will continue as you rotate through the specialist units with your team, enhancing your Aortovascular, Postop recovery and ECMO skills

We have a platform for nurse led research and are fortunate enough to be able offer our nurses’ opportunities to gain BSc, MSc and PHD qualifications, which is fully supported by our director of research and development.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities







Delivers high standards of clinical care to critical care patients according to clinical guidelines and trust policies.

- Maintains effective communication between the clinical areas, with the MDT and service users utilising a variety of means, including accurate documentation, consistent with Trust policy and wider legislation.
- Functions as a proficient clinical practitioner in the critical care area and a credible role model.
- Provides support and deputises for the senior sister / charge nurse in the effective day to day management of nursing team members, whilst developing -Personal leadership skills.
- Coach, teach and mentor junior nursing staff.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

- Registrant with NMC
- Adult Critical Care Course
- ILS / ALS provider
- Specialist relevant clinical course
- Management training
- completion of Step 4 Competencies

Desirable criteria

- Leadership programme or equivalent
- Degree or working towards first degree

Experience

Essential criteria

- Relevant critical care experience including management experience in ITU.
- At least 2 years post adult critical care course
- Evidence of positive contribution to critical care
- Associate Mentor to adult critical care course student

Knowledge

Essential criteria

- Evidence of continuing professional development






- Up to date knowledge of clinical speciality and evidence based practice
- Knowledge of current NHS, professional and educational issues
- Understanding of current educational practices relating to training

Skills

Essential criteria

- Evidence of proficient clinical skills in critical care
- At least 2 years post adult critical care course
- Evidence of positive contribution to critical care
- Associate Mentor to adult critical care course student

Other

Essential criteria

- Caring manner towards both patients, visitors and colleagues
- Able to form good inter-personal relationships with all members of the inter-professional team
