Social Sciences Divisional Office, 6 Worcester Street, Oxford, OX1 2BX Grade 08S : £47,085 - £55,895 per annum (inclusive of Oxford University weighting) PLEASE NOTE THIS VACANCY IS FOR INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY.

Do you have a PhD and experience in social science research, particularly quantitative research and analytical techniques?

Do you have an interest in supporting doctoral researchers with advanced methods training? The Social Sciences Division is looking for a Research & Training Lead to develop an innovative training programme for the new cohorts of the ESRC Grand Union Doctoral Training Programme (DTP).







The Research and Training Lead role will be focused on designing and delivering an integrated training experience on a range of skills relevant for social science research and practice.

The courses are essential to the DTP’s commitment to assist the professional development of twenty-first century social scientists.

The Research and Training Lead will work closely with doctoral student cohorts, taking into consideration their collective and individual training needs.

The postholder will be required to design (or identify) and co-deliver five new, interdisciplinary courses for DTP students covering general social science theory and methods, drawing upon the expertise and existing provision across the Grand Union DTP’s three partner institutions.

The courses will be delivered in the following five key areas, although the Research & Training Lead will not be required to be an expert in all of them.

a. Quantitative and Data Skills Basics;b. Behavioural Science;c. Big Data, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence;

d. Social Science for Public Policy and Business; ande.





Participatory and Co-Design Methods. The position offers leadership and managerial opportunities.

The postholder will have the ability to work independently and manage a discrete project, possess effective collaborative skills, and the ability to develop relationships with multiple partners at all levels.

The postholder will be required to develop a comprehensive understanding of the workings of the DTP and will be involved in the annual studentship selection processes, as well as serving as a member of the DTP’s management committees and ESRC networks.

The role is 0.5 FTE and fixed term until September 2026.
