Job summary

This exciting opportunity includes working within a highly specialist Intestinal Failure clinical health psychology service, as part of the clinical health psychology team at Salford Royal Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be expected to cover tertiary referrals for patients suffering with a variety of chronic or acute gastro-intestinal disorders, including Intestinal Failure, particular nutritional challenges, and patients with functional GI difficulties.

An interest in the psychological perspectives and challenges of gastro-intestinal / intestinal failure conditions and associated impact of treatments such as Parenteral Nutrition (PN) and surgical interventions would be advantageous.







Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to take an active role in research and service development, with a specific emphasis on taking a lead on research to publication in line with maintaining the profile of Intestinal Failure Services in particular.

A requirement will be to offer expert supervision on the Manchester doctorate course and to contribute expertise in this field of clinical psychology to a multi-disciplinary team, including supervision of Nursing colleagues, Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologist's and Band 7 Clinical Psychologists.

Teaching and presentation will also form a component of this job.

To promote an understanding of gut disorders across the trust and wider whilst striving for clinical excellence.

The work will be split between outpatients and inpatients therefore the successful applicant will be expected to have presence on the IF ward.

MDT working will be a vital part of the role,





including regular involvement in Ward Rounds and MDT meetings alongside consultation and support of the wider team in relation to psychological aspects of care.

The post holder may be expected to cover other areas of clinical health psychology dependent on changing service needs and waiting list priorities.

These duties must be carried out within professional ethics and trust policies.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

- The post holder must be able to satisfy the criteria for HCPC Registration for the advertised role.
- BSc Psychology ( or equivalent recognised by BPS) and post-graduate doctorate training or statement of equivalence from BPS
- Doctoral level training in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology

Skills and experience

Essential







- An interest in working with people with a variety of health conditions
- Evidence of an understanding of the required skills to formulate and appropriately design an intervention for individuals with chronic health conditions.
- Experience of working in Clinical Health and / or Gastrointestinal Psychology Services.
- An interest in working with people with chronic health conditions, especially gastrointestinal / intestinal failure diagnoses.
- CPD and clinical supervision, the post holder must demonstrate working towards the 'Highly Specialist' criteria for further training and experience

Desirable

- Evidence of peer reviewed research publication






- Experience of developing services and taking on other roles of increasing responsibility such as supervision of trainee clinical psychologists
- Research experience or further doctoral training
- Understanding of risk assessment in medical settings,
- Familiarity working with patients in a variety of ways including face to face and remotely.
