Job overview

To provide clinical expertise in the treatment of MSK foot problems and in the education and supervision of less experienced members of the Podiatry team.

To develop and deliver a high quality seamless MSK foot service within the community working with the other senior B7 leads to embed excellent care and to provide managerial support to the Head of Podiatry.

Introduction to the Department

Enfield Community Podiatry Services is a modern, forward-thinking department, which offers a wide range of advanced therapeutic treatments to its users, and we are seeking a senior podiatrist with excellent skills to join our small but committed and supportive clinical team.







We are part of North Mid in the Community and have close links with diabetes and orthopaedic departments within North Middlesex Hospital, and the Royal Free Hospital Pond Street, Barnet and Chase Farm Sites.

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

To perform comprehensive MSK podiatric assessment of adults and children with diverse presentations and complex physical and medical conditions.

To provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised or group treatment programme.

- To hold responsibility for own caseload working as an autonomous clinical expert.
- To triage all service referrals with a view to providing the most appropriate

treatment or onward referral as required.

To undertake line management duties such as recruitment, health roster, service delivery reviews to support the head of Podiatry, acting in some circumstances a deputy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical







- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of patients in your care.
- To undertake a comprehensive biomechanical and gait assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations / multi pathologies.

To use advanced clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment techniques to provide an accurate clinical diagnosis of their condition.

Formulate and deliver individual MSK treatment programmes based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and advanced treatment options.

Advance treatment options can include injection therapy, strapping, manipulation, acupuncture as guided by individual competence.







- To evaluate and review agreed patient treatment outcomes to facilitate discharge of patients to self-care / onward referral.
- Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent, and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with adult or child patients and their carers to progress treatment programmes.

This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating. For example, patients may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, and blind or who may be unable to accept diagnosis.

To prescribe, modify, and fit off the shelf orthoses / insoles as

required.

- To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload,





and in line with Trust policies and procedures.
- To work within Trust clinical guidelines, national and professional body guidelines and standards, thus, to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own and others quality of practice as appropriate.
- To be responsible for maintaining accurate comprehensive patient treatment records in line with recognised professional standards of practice (i.

e., from the Royal College of Podiatry, HCPC, and North Mid Trust policies).

- To record patient appointment outcomes / discharges on RIO in a timely fashion.
- Where appropriate, to supervise and provide mentoring to other podiatrists and foot care assistants.
- To be responsible for the maintenance and security of stock in own work area,





with the added responsibility of some clinical online ordering.
- To manage and develop in-house biomechanical training events, and to participate in and attend staff and therapy team meetings.
- To refer patients as necessary to other healthcare professionals to ensure appropriate care is provided and to follow Trust referral guidelines.
- To provide MSK targeted health promotion and advice to individuals and or groups where group intervention is more appropriate, and to assist in the development of MSK foot and general foot care literature to facilitate self care.

Professional & Managerial

- To undertake line management HR duties such as recruitment, health roster, and service delivery reviews to support the head of Podiatry,





acting in some circumstances a deputy.
- Maintain and develop current MSK expert knowledge through a variety of CPD training / learning modalities. To attend mandatory training, and to maintain a portfolio which reflects such personal development.
- To be responsible for providing supervisory and HR function to junior staff.
- To participate in the staff appraisal scheme both as an appraiser of junior staff, and as an appraisee. Being responsible for compiling your own agreed personal and professional objectives which meet service / Trust objectives.
- Undertake measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices using evidence-based practice projects, audit, and outcome measures, either individually or as part of a team.







Where appropriate taking action to implement improvement measures as agreed with the manager.

- Be actively involved in professional networking, keeping up to date with developments within Podiatry to facilitate service delivery.
- To provide support, guidance and training to junior podiatrists and assistants, assessing and evaluating competence.
- To maintain all areas of the working environment in a clean and tidy condition, meeting Trust / department infection control, and health and safety standards always.
- To participate in the collection of evidence required by the department to meet key performance targets, CQC evidence, and any other initiatives concerned with Clinical Governance.

Essential criteria

Degree in Podiatry with LA certificate

Desirable criteria

Evidence of on-going CPD in portfolio with MSK interest i.e. injection therapy
