Ready to Spark Change? Join Us as a Senior Residential Childcare Worker & Portfolio Lead for our Route 29 Service at Salford City Council

Salford is a thriving cultural, economic and residential location, well known as a channel for academic and business talent.

Children get a great start at a wide range of schools, further education colleges and the award-winning University of Salford.

The waterfront development at Media City UK makes Salford a major centre of UK media production.

We want children growing up in Salford to see and say that their city, community, andservices are great, and this has been recognised in our most recent Ofsted report which rates our continued overall services as good’.

This means that children have continued to receive focused, timely and proportionate support in response to their needs and level of risk.

Multi-agency arrangements for children are effective and these lead to a good range of interventions that keep children safe’ (Ofsted 2018)

Route 29 is using the No Wrong Door’ (NWD) approach which is a new exciting way of working collaboratively to meet the needs of our most vulnerable children and families in Salford.

Route 29 will focus on providing a robust and asset-based intervention to young people aged 12 17 years who are on the edge of care, in care or at risk of placement instability.

We believe that Route 29 will embrace a closer working relationship with adolescents a working with’ rather than a doing to’ approach.

We want to be seen as a listening organization and one where young people do not need to repeat their story to each professional, no matter which agency is involved.

Our hub which will provide residential and outreach support will have a dedicated team which includes :

Two Deputy Managers

Key workers who support young people and their families within the hub and by outreach work in the community

Portfolio Leads (keyworkers with additional levels of responsibility)

Life coach (clinical psychologist)

Speech and Language therapist

Educational Psychologist

Police Officer

Two Nurses

What Will You Do?

As a Senior Residential Childcare Worker & Portfolio Lead, you'll use your experience and therapeutic knowledge to craft a nurturing environment that feels like a true home for our young residents.

There may be times when we have no young people living in the home and when this happens, you will work with our outreach team, helping young people develop skills for their future.

Key Responsibilities :

Leadership and Guidance : Mentor and support a team of residential childcare workers, instilling best practices and a therapeutic approach to daily interactions.

Therapeutic Care : Implement strategies that promote emotional and psychological well-being, tailoring care to the unique needs of each child.

Community Building : Help foster a safe, inviting home atmosphere where every child can thrive.

Collaboration : Work alongside other professionals to ensure comprehensive, holistic care that supports all aspects of a child's development.

Who We're Looking For :

We are looking for someone with a solid background in residential childcare, with hands-on experience in supporting managing the complexities of a children’s home.

You will bring a deep-seated passion for using therapeutic approaches in the care of young people. Holding a Level 3 or 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is essential.

Salford City Council is committed to diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all parts of the community.

If you are interested in improving young people’s life chances and working for Salford, and can demonstrate our values of Pride, Passion, People and Personal Responsibility, it really is an exciting time to join us.

For an informal discussion please contact Residential Deputy Manager, Jo Barrow via [email protected]
