Community Psychiatric Nurse

Waltham Forest Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse to join a friendly, motivated team working with young people within our neurodevelopmental pathway.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate a genuine interest and experience of working with young people in a community setting.

They will also need to be able to demonstrate an ability to contribute to the evidence based assessment and treatment offered within the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the assessment of young people within our neurodevelopmental assessment clinic.

This will include completing a detailed developmental history with parents and carers, completing face to face assessments of young people suspected to be presenting with signs of Autism and / or ADHD, and providing feedback and advice / signposting following the assessment.







They will be responsible for documenting their observations within an assessment report and providing supporting evidence to the professional network, for example to support application and review of Education and Health Care Plans.

Additional training would be provided to ensure that the post holder has the skills required to fulfil the requirements of the post.

The post holder will also work as part of a duty rota to respond to queries and concerns for young people who are open to the service, including completing an assessment of mental health need and risk, and discussing with the wider team to agree a plan of care.

The post holder will be expected to manage their own caseload, working in an evidenced based and time limited way, including use of outcome monitoring to measure progress and client satisfaction.







Interventions may involve working individually with service users and their carers, but also providing interventions to families and groups as required.

Probationary Period

This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.







As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- To work within the neurodevelopmental pathway to complete holistic assessments, including assessment of risk.
- To feedback the outcome of assessment to family, offering advise and further referral / signposting as appropriate.






- To follow NELFT safeguarding processes at all times to ensure the safety of young people.
- To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team - to work alongside CAMHS colleagues and professionals from other services to contribute a nursing perspective and to represent CAMHS.
- To work as part of the duty rota - to provide a timely response to reassure families and young people and to review the plan of care.

Essential criteria

RMN Post Registration Qualification to Degree level or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

Mentorship Qualification (or relevant experience of working with student nurses and willingness to attend training )
