Purpose of the role :

The Director of Transformation and Stakeholder Relations (DTSR) leads a broad portfolio as part of the Bristol Waste Company executive team including social impact, sustainability, communications, key transformation projects and our core support services with six direct reports.

This role is crucial for maintaining positive relationships with senior stakeholders and ensuring effective decision-making between BWC and Bristol City Council.

The postholder also acts as the Speak Up Guardian for the company and is the go-to person for colleagues to raise concerns of wrongdoing.

About the role : You will :

You will :

Manage a complex stakeholder environment to facilitate effective decision making between us and Bristol City Council (as client and shareholder)





by building and maintaining positive relationships with senior stakeholders, senior officers and Councillors across the Council

Lead the teams working within communications and engagement (internal and external) to ensure BWC communicates well and positively engages with residents, current and prospective customers, and internally with our 800+ colleagues

Be responsible for working with executive colleagues, the senior leadership team and project management team to deliver key transformation projects

Hold the position of Speak Up Guardian (Whistleblowing) so our colleagues can raise any concerns of wrongdoing confidentially and confidently, investigating concerns as required

Grow our reuse offer and support our commercial teams to bring in new business







Deliver sustainability projects that keep Bristol as number one English core city for recycling, and help us as a company to meet our sustainability aims, ambitions and targets

Key Responsibilities :

Provide leadership of the business alongside executive colleagues, developing and delivering against our business plan.

Communication Leadership : Oversee internal and external communications to ensure positive engagement with residents, customers, and colleagues (includes customer relations, community engagement, marketing & communications)

Commercial Growth : Support the commercial team to bring in new business via growth marketing.

Sustainability Projects :





Lead sustainability initiatives to maintain Bristol’s status as the top English core city for recycling and meet BWC’s sustainability goals including the running of our reuse shops and delivering our reuse growth plan.

Project Delivery : Collaborate with executive colleagues and project managers to deliver key transformation projects.

Operational support : Provide responsive administrative support across all business areas, identifying and delivering efficiencies and process improvements.

Stakeholder Management : Build and maintain positive relationships with senior stakeholders, officers, and Councillors across Bristol City Council.

Whistleblowing Oversight : Act as the Speak Up Guardian to confidentially address and investigate concerns of wrongdoing.

The person we really want :

You will excel in building and nurturing effective partnerships,





managing stakeholder relationships with partners, and delivering positive outcomes for businesses you work for.

You will be a collaborator, committed to doing the right thing, a strong communicator and focused on ensuring both you and your teams perform.

As a dynamic leader with senior-level experience you will ideally have experience of managing projects and transformation, a keen interest in social value and be comfortable leading a wide-ranging brief.

As this is a maternity cover you will be up for getting stuck in straight away.

Essential Requirements for the Role :

Experience of operating at a senior level : within a large multi-disciplinary environment, Teckal or Local Authority Organisation or equivalent experience.

Senior-Level Transformation :





Proven experience in managing projects and transformation at a senior level.

Stakeholder Relations : Strong ability to build and nurture effective partnerships, manage stakeholder relationships and influence others to achieve business objectives.

Communication Skills : Excellent communication skills, with experience in leading communication teams.

Social Value Commitment : A keen interest in social value and sustainability.

Dynamic Leadership : Ability to lead and deliver against a wide-ranging brief. Proven ability to develop and implement strategic approaches across multiple teams and functions.
