Job overview

An exciting, new, permanent band 8a role has become available within the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Service at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital.

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic practitioner psychologist into a service supporting adults with Cystic Fibrosis and the systems around them.

The person appointed will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to patients under the care of the Cystic Fibrosis service, as well as advice and consultation to professional colleagues.

There are strong opportunities for research and service development with the CF MDT and wider psychological services.







We are looking for a candidate with experience in the field of clinical health psychology (and preferably CF) to work alongside two other practitioner psychologists.

Operationally these posts sit within the wider Barts Heart and Thorax Psychological Services and clinical supervision and line management for this 8a post will be provided from this service.

Further continuing professional development is actively encouraged. The post will provide a wide range of experience and allow the candidate to further develop valuable transferable skills.

Please note that the Cystic Fibrosis Service requires the postholder to be able to work Wednesday to Friday with Thursdays and Fridays being essential on-site days due to MDT clinics occurring on these days.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a candidate with experience in the field of clinical health psychology (and preferably CF) to work alongside two other practitioner psychologists (0.

5 wte Band 7 and 0.5 wte Band 8a).





Operationally these posts sit within the wider Barts Heart and Thorax Psychological Services and clinical supervision and line management for this 8a post will be provided from this service.

Further continuing professional development is actively encouraged. The post will provide a wide range of experience and allow the candidate to further develop valuable transferable skills.

Professionally, you will join a well-established and well-regarded Cystic Fibrosis service, as well as an innovative and expanding team of psychological practitioners working across respiratory, cancer, and cardiac services on site at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

You will also join a wider professional network of over 60 psychological practitioners, working within many acute and community services across Barts Health NHS Trust.

Experience

Essential criteria

- Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist at specialist level.
- Experience of applying clinical psychology in culturally diverse contexts and working within a multicultural framework
- Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups,





across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity
- Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment, both as a professionally qualified care co-ordinator and within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan
- Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
- Experience of presenting psychology (including teaching and training) to multidisciplinary audiences at conferences or other educational settings
- Experience of intervening at multiple levels in the system, for example, with service development projects
- Experience of providing staff support in a healthcare setting
- Experience of supervising trainee psychologists and / or other professionals

Desirable criteria







- Experience of working within related Clinical Health Psychology and / or CF settings
- Experience and expertise in working with adults who have life limiting and life-threatening conditions
- Experience of working within acute medical environments with potentially stressed patients and / or carers and family members
- Experience of liaising with and supporting acute hospital staff
- Experience in working with the network around the person, including family members and others who may be non-professional carers, as well as professionals

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

- Knowledge of legislation / health care guidelines and their implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to adults with Cystic Fibrosis






- Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the HCPC and BPS
- Knowledge of legislation relating to safeguarding and vulnerable adults
- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention, and management
- Highly-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their carers, and other professionals
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
- Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to distressing situations and challenging behaviours
- Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
- Evidence of skilled and productive multidisciplinary team working
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, including verbal abuse

Desirable criteria

- Skills in providing consultation that can inform and promote psychological well-being to other professional and non-professional groups working with / associated with Cystic Fibrosis
- Doctoral level research skills and experience of both quantitative and qualitative research methods

Qualifications

Essential criteria

- Good honours degree in Psychology or equivalent
- Completion of a Health and Care Professions Council / British Psychological Society accredited postgraduate professional training course in either clinical or counselling psychology, including clinical psychometrics and lifespan developmental psychology
- Registration with the Health and Care Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist

Desirable criteria

Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
